Hi

Just wondered if anyone has given this up totally or if lots of people still have there daily dose.

I drink about 2/3 cups of tea or coffee a day is this too much?

I have switched to decaf tea, which I actually prefer! And still have the odd latte.

But I am sure that I read somewhere (think it was NICE guidance) that 2-3 cups of tea or coffee a day is fine and that there isn't any scientific evidence to suggest caffeine poses a problem for ttc. So I would say you are fine

I believe 3 is the limit while preg, but you should also take into account if you are having any cola, or even chocolate which has some caffine.

I'm still having 1 a day, but wil give up with bfp, as i have had to many m/c to want anything else to contribute.
there was something on a site i think ivillage about how much caffine to have and a list with all the amounts of caffine.
can try and find later, if you like.

I am rubbish at links but www.nice.org.uk/download.aspx?o=cg011NICEguideline
this is where I read that there is no consistent evidence of an association between caffeinated beverages and fertility problems.

I think you are right not to deny yourself everything you like. It's stressful enough ttc! I would always say that most things are fine in moderation!

Fingers crossed for BFP.

I read somewhere there was some relation between excessive caffeine intake and increased miscarriages, therefore to cutdown a little is a good idea. I bought a load of caffeine free teabags/coffee and then read that although they are caffeine free they containg loads of nasty chemicals which are more harmful if your pregnant, so I've never touched them. I've only cut down slightly but it's harder to cut down on hot drinks in winter.

ready4motherhood · 30/10/2006 14:33

1n2s... really worried now cos I have been drinking decaf tea ... Do you know what these chemicals are?? I only have 1-2 cups of decaf tea a day... but perhaps I should switch back to regular.

???

Ready4motherhood - so sorry I didn't mean to worry you. Here's one of the links I read about decaff on:

www.gettingpregnant.co.uk/what_you_eat.htm

I'm still drinking about 3 cups of normal tea per day and avoiding strong coffees. But then again I'm not preggers so I don't know if this is correct. I've started to drink lemon and ginger tea also to try and get away from the caffeine. I'm really not a fan of fruit teas so this is hard.

ready4motherhood · 30/10/2006 15:15

Thanks 1n2s that's made me feel better!! Everything in moderation heh!!
