mirena removal in the hope of a baby

Hi,
I'm having my mirena coil removed in 5 days and I wanted to know how long people left it before trying to get pregnant?
The doctor told me it's safe to get pregnant instantly and if I have sex 7 days before removal I could still get pregnant.
Has anyone gotten pregnant in this 7 day window or very soon after removal?
Thanks :) x

Got BFP within a month!!

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 18/03/2015 18:13

I got pregnant 2 months later but sadly miscarried, nothing to do with the coil, and then conceived again 2 months later and am now 39 weeks pregnant.

Good luck

I waited three cycles. Just personal choice and I certainly noticed my third period was heavier and more 'real'

After that I got my bfp 5minths later x

I got my BFP within 5 weeks of having my Mirena removed.

these success stories put my mind at ease.

Thanks xxx

We started ttc after 1 cycle as I wanted to give my body time to adjust but that was personal choice, my gynaecologist said I could start straight away.

KatoPotato · 19/03/2015 10:43

Like I said, I waited three cycles as when my Mirena was in I never had anything resembling a period.

My consultant told me to go home and get cracking, but I definitely saw a difference in the AF I had after three.

kewbaby · 19/03/2015 11:30

AF hasn't visited me properly in around 6 years due to various contraceptive methods. before the mirena I had a visit every 3 or 4 months, sometimes longer between. with mirena I haven't even had a spot. My OH has suggested having a bleed before trying to make sure everything is clean and happy in there!
I'm eager to start now but want what's best for me and the baby.
thanks everyone! xx

I had mirena for about 7 years. Towards the end I had no periods at all. When I had it removed my GP advised me to wait for a period before ttc, though she did say that there is no real evidence that this is necessary. My period came on time and then got pregnant the first month of ttc. Sadly had a mmc at 10 weeks but am now anxiously pregnant again! Good luck x

good luck with your pregnancy!

I'm so impatient I want it removed now and get trying!
we ideally wanted a baby before Xmas but due to not being able to get this thing removed for over 6 weeks it's well out of the window. It would have been a push for a December baby if it could have been removed when I enquired. What will be will be! :)

We waited one cycle but that was because I didnt want to be in the early stages of pregnancy during our summer holiday as my first pregnancy was awful.

Got pregnant the next month (1st month ttc).

kewbaby · 19/03/2015 15:32

apart from the upsetting stories of miscarriage, conception after mirena removal is looking pretty positive! this is my first so not sure how long it will take me. My OH has kids and he never had any issues so hoping I don't either :)
it's so exciting I want it to happen now! x

I had a mirena removed in August and still no BFP :-( We are TTC no 3 and got pregnant with DC1 and 2 very quickly. I am wondering if the mirena messed up my cycles which has meant I haven't been able to get pregnant.

kewbaby · 19/03/2015 16:44

I hope you get your BFP soon! fingers and toes are crossed for you.
My main concern is that I've been on some form of contraception for 9 years. I hope it hasn't messed up my cycles too much! x

One cycle then got pregnant.

losthermind · 19/03/2015 17:26

I got pregnant 4 weeks after having my mirena removed
AF arrived the day before my removal, and was very short
I am now 18 weeks pregnant Smile
I had irregular periods for 7 years prior to having the mirena, and like you had tried previous methods before choosing it as my contraception.
Needless to say I was extremely surprised to get pregnant in such a short period of time.

kewbaby · 24/03/2015 10:27

hey ladies!!
the coil is removed and we are both willing to start trying instantly, we were undecided last night and I was apprehensive of it being sore from removal.
quick question... How long roughly will I be waiting for a period? will it be a few days or a full month? doctor assured me it won't be a massacre if I have one! thankfully!

xxx
