TTC with PCOS

Ainat266 · 15/03/2015 14:25

Are there any other ladies out there trying to conceive with PCOS? Or any success stories of conceiving with PCOS?

We've been ttc and off of bc since August. Since then I've been diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin. I am overweight, especially for my height as I'm only short - but am trying to lose the weight. I'm almost at a 10% weight loss since getting the PCOS diagnosis in November 14. I haven't had any periods since coming off of bc in August 14, apart from what I'm guessing was a withdrawal bleed (that happened pretty much straight away - end of August) and a couple of very light bleeds that lasted no longer than a day.

I'm just feeling all a bit fed up now and think I need to hear from others that are either in a similar boat or have been able to have healthy normal pregnancies despite the PCOS.

So AF arrived this morning Sad so cycle 5 here I am. Will start Clomid tomorrow. Had got my hopes up a bit as my moods and spots had all calmed a bit. I'm turning 34 this week, so had really wanted my BFP before my birthday. Going to make the most of the fact that AF is here and dye all my grey hair and bleach my tash. I haven't dyed my hair since early December as I don't think all those nasty chemicals are good for pregnancy.

DH was really hopeful that we were pregnant as I have booked him in for SA on Tuesday and he really doesn't want to go but now he has no choice! If DH also has a problem then we will be going for IVF.

Not only do we have baby names that have been selected for 6+ years but I have a whole cupboard full of baby clothes! I am getting a baby one way or another!

So it sounds like quite a few of us will be on Clomid in May! Hopefully there will be BFPs for everyone this cycle!

AbFab86 · 03/05/2015 15:37

Oh Rufus so sorry AF got you SadThanks I hope all of us taking clomid together has some sort of cosmic effect and we all get BFPs together! You're still plenty young enough, but sorry you didn't get a birthday BFP. I hope DH's SA comes back ok. If not then like you say, IVF is always available. You WILL get your baby to wear the clothes Smile I'm not allowed to buy any clothes yet, I know that'd be a very slippery slope for me! My mum has bought some maternity clothes for me though...

PopcornPip · 03/05/2015 18:49

I'm another anti-camper Wink
rose no updates from me, no symptoms either. Haven't really been on it this month, think I'm out..
rufus are you doing anything nice for your birthday?

Rufus200 · 03/05/2015 21:37

I'm going to have afternoon tea and stuff myself with sandwiches and cake. I have been trying to be good and no carbs after 5pm, so far day 5. I want chocolate so bad right now!!!

mistletoeprickles · 04/05/2015 09:41

Hi Everyone

Can I join in if I bring Cake?

A little bit about me....I was diagnosed at 17 but went on to have a surprise DD at 23. We have now been trying for #2 since October but haven't really had much chance as I've only had one AF which was Provera induced. I had a failed cycle of clomid as I didn't produce a follicle. I've just finished another course of Provera so hopefully AF will show up pretty soon then its on to clomid at a 100mg a day Sad

How does everyone do with side effects?

On 50mg I did lots of sweating and crying and struggled to sleep so i'm dreading what the 100mg will do to me.

I've also just begun weight watchers in hope that losing a little bit of weight will help, right now I'm willing to try just about anything!

Rufus200 · 04/05/2015 12:25

Welcome Mistletoe, looks like you will be joining a lot of us on Clomid in May.

New Clomid symptom (or PCOS ramping up a gear), I am having the AF from hell! TMI but I've had 2 accidents now and bled more in 24 hrs then I did in my entire last AF. As a teenager I used to have to sleep on a sheet for children that wet the bed as AF would leak. I hate wearing towels but looks like I'm going to have to use tampax and a towel tonight. Hoping Clomid will dry AF up quickly. Last thing I want is to add anaemia to my fertility problems, so added cashew butter to my porridge this morning (cashews have more iron in them then the same amount of beef!)

PontyGirl · 05/05/2015 10:15

hi everyone! hope everyone is okay. still no AF for me, boobs are mega sore today though so perhaps she will show soon. I think I must be nearing CD 50 now (haven't checked ff in a few days) which is annoying but hey ho.

really struggling to lose weight, am even considering slimming world for a kick start.

Brew for you all on this horrible wet morning

IsItIorAreTheOthersCrazy · 05/05/2015 13:57
Envy I'm on my lunch break in work so can't post properly but just wanted to vent that the clomid has given me Hulk-like tendencies and temper today and I've found out that 2 more people in my office are pregnant. Diet may have gone out of the window I am currently stuffing my face with cake

I will post something more coherent later

PontyGirl · 05/05/2015 16:17

isit you are allowed to rage! and eat lots of cake Grin it is like taking a bullet when people announce sometimes. but you just got to think - it WILL be you one day Thanks

DrewOB · 05/05/2015 18:55

Getting a GP callback tomorrow to discuss bloods I had down ( hormones plus hcg plus liver and kidney functions) I'm guessing it's not an all clear so panicking here. Front desk told me nothing!

PopcornPip · 05/05/2015 19:00

Sounds good rufus when's the special day?
Welcome mistletoe waves
urgh isit you carry on with the cake, as long as you share Wink

I had a horribly moody day yesterday, feeling better today though.

PontyGirl · 05/05/2015 19:47

don't panic drew! I'm sure it's nothing to worry about Brew

Rufus200 · 05/05/2015 22:46

2nd dose of Clomid, had nausea all morning and felt very light headed and faint throughout the day. Tomorrow is the day I officially get older, so I will be stuffing myself stupid with cake. DH took me out to dinner tonight and I had already eaten a bread role when I remembered I was supposed to be no carbing after 5pm, so went sod it and ate everything I wanted!

DH went and had his SA today, the sulk was impressive! He was mortified at the entire female staff at the lab and it cost him £180! I didn't have the heart to tell him if it isn't normal that he needs to be tested again!

PontyGirl · 06/05/2015 07:56

hope you had a lovely day Rufus ThanksThanks Thanks

re: sperm sample, I find that it's a rather more dignified experience than giving birth Grin it's a tiny price to pay in the grand scheme of things. bless these men though, they don't have a clue!

RoseBud2015 · 06/05/2015 08:10

Rufus Sorry to hear that AF got you and you are now in the midst of clomid hell again- I cannot say I'm looking forward to all these crazy side effects but by this stage we are all prepared to do pretty much anything, right?

My DH went for his SA yesterday too! It was his second one, after the first one only had an 8 million count (supposed to be 15 million). If this one comes back low the consultant has said we will have to go straight to IVF! Problem is DH has children from a previous relationship so we wouldn't be eligible for NHS funding so if it does come back low again, I think I may be inconsolable! TRYING to think positively........ Hmm

Popcorn I have moody days most days at the moment Wink. Glad you're feeling better today? Do you usually feel like that in the run up to AF being due?

Mistle Welcome! Fingers crossed the 100mg works for you! Did you just do the one round of 50mg before they increased the dose? How old is your DD now?

Ponty Hope AF arrives soon for you so you get out of limbo land- it is the worse!

Drew Hope the GP call goes ok today. Let us know the update when you can. Fingers crossed for you!

Isit What is going on with your super-fertile office colleagues?! Can they not share some of that sh*t around!!!? It's so difficult when we are having our own silent struggles ttc. Oh, and forget the Cake and get on the Wine while you can Wink!!!

Ab only a couple of days of norethisterone left for us!! Woop!

IsItIorAreTheOthersCrazy · 06/05/2015 14:02

Thank you for agreeing that stuffing my face was the best plan for yesterday! I have no idea what is going on in my office - there are now 6 pregnant women floating around which makes work just rubbish.

Also, I wish I could take up the Wine but I'm in my estimated ovulation time this week so I'm too afraid to indulge. Wish I could though - horrible as it sounds, dtd on demand is starting to take its toll

rufus I hope you're ok. Clomid is pain - I find it causes insomnia and night sweats and makes me feed completely exhausted by about 4:30. Luckily DH is sympathetic though
Also, it will be embarrassing for your DH, but it's nothing compared with internal scans, blood tests and stuffing yourself with hormones!

rosebud try not to think about it. If he had children before it may just be a fluke result Flowers

Kirstie65423 · 06/05/2015 17:44

Hi everyone..
I've been with my partner for 5 years we started ttc 1year 6months ago I have Pcos.. Had bloods done and came back borderline ovulating? Not to sure what that means! I am going to see the gynaecologist on the 18th may and was just wondering what the time period could be like on waiting for them to do something about this. I've been waiting so long I don't know how much longer I can deal with feeling useless I just want my little family and I just feel like having to wait for someone to help me do this is so unfair especially when my friends get pregnant so easy :(

Ginfizz90 · 06/05/2015 21:09

Hi ladies! Just saying a quick hello. I have my consultant appointment tomorrow afternoon.

Can anybody talk me through what happens? Feeling a bit anxious about it. What kind of questions did you ask?

IsItIorAreTheOthersCrazy · 07/05/2015 08:49

I asked if there was anything I needed to change (was diet mainly). I also asked exactly what difference the tablets would make (was prescribed metformin) and had to write down what dose and when to take them because I couldn't concentrate. With Clomid I asked when exactly to take them and how they were going to follow them up and check that they work as well as what level my day 21 bloods would need to be at to show ovulation. Also, when I was going to see her next. I'm sure I asked more but can't remember. DH wrote everything down because it was a lot of info crammed into a small amount of time.
I also asked some questions that weren't really related because I my consultant also found a liver issue in my blood test results. I'm seeing a separate consultant for that today!

Good Luck!

mistletoeprickles · 07/05/2015 08:53

Rose Yes I just had one cycle on 50mg which didn't work so the consultant said to go up to 100mg. I only get 6 goes so don't want to be hanging around on 50mg when the chances of it working are small.

Kirstie From experience I have learnt that pushing is the key, my GP wanted me to wait a year before they would refer me but knowing I had PCOS meant I knew I didn't have to wait. I spoke to 3 GP's at the surgery before I was referred. The consultant appointment you have is a good step. Write down any questions before you go. As its a first consultation they will probably request some more tests i.e ultrasound and SA for your partner.

rufus I hope clomid gives you a BFP this month. It is perfectly acceptable to eat whatever you like whilst taking those evil little buggers!

So I'm still waiting for AF, its now 5 days since I finished the Provera, but last time it took almost two weeks but definitely have PMT style symptoms. Poor DP has enjoyed two nights on the sofa, one for snoring and the other for just irritating me. Luckily he understands I turn into a monster and just lets me get on with it.

drew hope the tests give you some answers Flowers

isit I know what you mean, SIL has just announced her third pregnancy, which is fine but that's a baby born and a conception in the time we've been trying and I can't help but feel jealous Blush . Also a good friend has told me she's going to be TTC from August and it certainly feels like she'll be pregnant before me.

DrewOB · 07/05/2015 09:47

GP just rung once and I missed it as I wax at work :( I hope she calls back today.
I think having periods without ovulating is worse that no periods at all :(

Ginfizz90 · 07/05/2015 20:56

Hello ladies, had my appointment today with the consultant, it went really well he has given me a prescription to pick up from my gp for Metformin and also put on my notes that I can be prescribed clomid when ever I feel ready. This was private so he has sent over this info to my gp. I don't think I'm quite ready for clomid yet! Hoping the met will make some kind of improvement first of all and then I have that to fall back on if needed.
He also said I don't need to go back to him to start clomid, I can do 3 months on it on my own then if no luck I will go back to him for further tests (tube blockages and sperm analysis etc) then a further 3 months with monitoring. I though I would have to have all of this before taking it!

In my head I'm wishing metformin will help me start oving but I know not that alone works for everyone.

Has anybody had success on met? The side effects sound pretty ick

Ginfizz90 · 07/05/2015 21:22

Also I am cd 11 been taking soy cd 2-6 and I think I just got a positive opk!!! Omg surely cd 11 is too early? I know opks aren't reliable for us but usually I have the odd faint line.

DrewOB · 08/05/2015 12:55

tests came back. Apparently all normal apart from Testosterone.
I requested 3 months of BC to try and bring that down and will TTC again after that.
Still doesn't explain why I had 6 weeks of feeling like

RoseBud2015 · 09/05/2015 08:48

Morning!

IsIt- Any signs of ov yet? Can I ask do you take your clomid in the morning or evening?

Mistletoe Has AF arrived for you yet? How long did it take after the progesterone last time?

Gin Glad to hear you now have some medication- fingers crossed it works for you! And if not at least you know that the clomid is waiting for you if and when you need it Smile I have had lots of pos opks over the months of ttc but have defo never ov'ed! Only a sustained temp shift can confirm ov (or a blood test!) Do you temp? Maybe its time to start?!

Drew Sorry to hear things are still very much up in the air for you. What happens next for you?

So I've finally finished my 10 days of norethisterone now and awaiting AF not very patiently! It definitely feels like shes on her way! And then we can finally start clomid!!! Ab you must have finished yours now too??? How are you feeling?

DH got his second SA results.... better than last time- 14 million count rather than the previous 8 million. But still a little below average. I'm hoping the consultant wont pull the clomid rug from under our feet when we see her next, and send us straight for IVF! Hmm
