TTC with PCOS

Ainat266 · 15/03/2015 14:25

Are there any other ladies out there trying to conceive with PCOS? Or any success stories of conceiving with PCOS?

We've been ttc and off of bc since August. Since then I've been diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin. I am overweight, especially for my height as I'm only short - but am trying to lose the weight. I'm almost at a 10% weight loss since getting the PCOS diagnosis in November 14. I haven't had any periods since coming off of bc in August 14, apart from what I'm guessing was a withdrawal bleed (that happened pretty much straight away - end of August) and a couple of very light bleeds that lasted no longer than a day.

I'm just feeling all a bit fed up now and think I need to hear from others that are either in a similar boat or have been able to have healthy normal pregnancies despite the PCOS.

Hey ain hope you're well Smile
ab sorry to hear about your granddad. Flowers
That's good news about the clomid though!

It occurred to me last night that having a 32 day cycle changes when I might ovulate. Obvious I know but I hadn't really considered it before. So I'm looking at oving between cd 16-18. Dtd last night (cd 15) and hoping to do again tonight and Tuesday (cd18). And so we go on to another month Wink

AbFab86 · 27/04/2015 03:47

Apologies for the delay (again) in replying. Went out for brunch on Friday and it was a messy one. Just about feeling human again.

Ponty yep I've been living here on and off since 1998. Had my teenage years here then went back to the UK for uni and work, before returning here in September with new DH. The healthcare is absolutely fantastic, but it's all private. Luckily, the vast majority of expat contracts come with healthcare, so it's all fine and dandy. I'm also extremely lucky that my employer has a good insurance package so it covers fertility, because otherwise there'd be no hope for us at all! Just looking at your temp chart....could that massive dip at 7dpo be an implantation dip??

Isit - Welcome! I will add you to the table when I'm on my computer rather than my iPad. Best of luck on your clomid journey. I'll be following it closely and hoping for the best for you. I'm not looking forward to the side effects at all! Not sure it's advisable to take when you're in charge of other people's children! Hah

Gin hope you hear about your appointment soon! I haven't tried soy but presume you can get it on amazon.

Sus Hello! I will add you on to the table too. That's great news your cycles have shortened. Definitely a good sign.

Eskimo I have no idea what to look for in sperm (hah!) but they all look like they're within the normal boundaries, so that's a great sign.

Rosebud I'd go for it and take it now. If you take them at night then the side effects of the previous one will be at their weakest when you go out for the night out (hopefully!!)

Well I had my appointment today. Was really odd. I sat in the waiting room, the nurse came out with a piece of paper and basically I didn't need to see the doctor, I just need to go tomorrow for my day 21 test and then start my prescription, which was for progesterone and clomid!!! Eeek!

There's a minor stumbling block in terms of me starting it though. I obviously have to be at home for the blood tests and scans etc in the first couple of weeks. Unfortunately my grandad died on Friday (at the ripe old age of 93!) and I will be going back to the UK for his funeral in a week or so. I don't want to start the progesterone now in case AF arrives when I'm in the UK and the side effects add to the rubbishness of the funeral etc, or if I end up on day 11 or whatever and I'm not at home. Does that make sense? Hah oh to have a normal life eh?! I'll sort out my days anyway so I can start it efficiently Smile

AbFab86 · 27/04/2015 03:51

Sorry for double posting - the app is being useless!

Popcorn it definitely might be that you ovulate later. Just keep DTD until you get some form of positive!

IsItIorAreTheOthersCrazy · 27/04/2015 14:51

AbFab thank you. I'll keep you all updated on how the clomid is going. So far this time I've had one hot flush and feel very irritable. DP is treading softly around me!
And very sorry for your loss Flowers

popcorn I have had a few big crying fits to be honest. I don't even know if it's upset or frustration but it's helped just to get it out.

I'm not sure if this is the right way to do things, but asy cycles seem to do whatever they want (were 70 days, then were 40 days for 6 months but last one was 30days) so as of yesterday (day 7) we will be dtd every other day. Is that too much? I can't predict when I'll ovulate and I'm afraid to miss it.

PontyGirl · 27/04/2015 19:33

isit every other day is fine! plenty in fact.

ab sorry to hear about your grandad! no implantation dip for me. I did hope as much but I'm definitely not pregnant and currently fighting with my doctor to change my thyroxine dose as I doubt I could sustain a pregnancy as it stands atm but my doctor seems to want to ignore the NICE guidelines, and so the fight continues...

Ginfizz90 · 27/04/2015 21:41

Hello ladies! Hope your all well! Great to see some of you are making progress. Sorry to see some of you are still battling with gps! Please don't give up hope. So AF arrived today after a month back on the pill, officially cycle day 1, I know I may not get another one in a months time but least I can date my last period. Couldn't even do that before as was on mini pill!

AbFab86 · 28/04/2015 13:03

We will definitely be DTD every other day (or more if possible) when I'm on clomid, so I'd say every other day for a couple of weeks is a very good idea Smile

Gin can't believe it's 3 weeks since you started back on the pill! Time is flying by!

ponty good luck with the GP. Excuse my ignorance, but what does thyroxine do? I haven't come across that before.

I just got a call from the nurse to let me know my day 21 test result. She said 'it's low' in a really 'Ohhh this is awfulllll' kind of way Grin So I reminded her I was expecting that and I will start taking the clomid on the next cycle. But I'm thinking now I may as well start taking the progesterone tablets now to induce AF, seeing as there's no chance I've ovulated as of now, rather than wait another week. I'll have to check my dates to make sure I'm back in the country in time for the scans.

Rufus200 · 28/04/2015 17:00

9 DPO for me today and I am a mess. I have had 2 x toddler temper tantrums already today at DH who just stood with his mouth open going WTF!!! My entire head is now covered in spots, there are huge pain lumps not just in my hair around my face but all over. This has to be either the Clomid or pregnancy, I have really hope it is the latter and I don't have to go through this every cycle! If this is PMT then I am going to have the period from hell!

May POAS tomorrow

AbFab86 · 28/04/2015 19:05

Wow Rufus that sounds horrible! I think it's too early for pregnancy to cause symptoms like that but that's definitely not to say you're not! I've got everything crossed for you that you get your BFP and don't have to go through this again.

DrewOB · 29/04/2015 10:28

Second bleed since starting trying about 3 months ago here :(

PontyGirl · 29/04/2015 12:59

ab I have an underactive thyroid which affects fertility. currently battling my gp to recognise NHS guidelines and increase my dose of medication

PopcornPip · 29/04/2015 13:29

Rufus did you POAS? Smile
Ponty Hope you get somewhere with your gp. It can be really frustrating at times.

If I ovulated when I think I did then I'm 4dpo. Nowt going on here!

Rufus200 · 29/04/2015 16:42

POAS this morning neg so far

IsItIorAreTheOthersCrazy · 29/04/2015 17:18

Rufus I hope you're feeling better. I think what you've got is a case of clomid hormonal madness. I've had the same, after thinking I was getting away quite lightly. Had a proper sob last night after dtd because we have to do it so much I was convinced we'll ruin our sex life. And today I am murderous in work I am sat with my head down at my desk trying to block everyone out before I blow
It is completely rubbish and you have my sympathy. I don't have the lumps on head/face but I have psoriasis on my head which is v v rare for me and some lovely spots around my mouth.

abfab I'm glad you think every other day is ok. I think I focus so much on it that it's hard to keep perspective. I would dtd everyday but I don't think DH can sustain that.

ponty definately argue with your gp. I had to change practice to get a gp that could be bothered to investigate my issues. God knows where we'd be now without that.

Ain626 · 01/05/2015 00:36

Sorry to hear that some of you are going through such a tough time.

after 9 months of being off the pill I finally have a visit from AF!!! Cramps, nausea, being extra emotional and a ruined pair of underwear. I have never been so happy to feel so crappy! ! !

Will write out a decent reply tomorrow as im supposed to be trying to sleep. I have a long day tomorrow!

AbFab86 · 01/05/2015 08:23

Ain congratulations!! Here's hoping this is the start of slightly more normal cycles.

Ponty I should've known that - thyroxine/thyroid. I hope you manage to get your way with the GP (oo-er!).

Rufus any more sticks peed on?

Isit I'm really not looking forward to the clomid symptoms! I went into work yesterday after a couple of days off ill and was ready to snap at almost anyone who spoke to me. That's only on day 2 of progesterone!! Grin Good thing a lot of my classes will be on study leave when I start in clomid. Eeek I'm so excited, I really hope it works.

Has anyone else got names picked out yet? I know it's really getting ahead of ourselves, but we do Blush We had a long conversation over breakfast this morning (cafe surrounded by young families) about what our daughter will be like. I'm not even ovulating yet, let alone us having a daughter!!

Ginfizz90 · 01/05/2015 10:38

Hi guys! Just updating you all, have consultant appointment Thursday! Eeek they rang me on Wednesday an asked if I was free so really quick.

Ginfizz90 · 01/05/2015 11:20

Ain!!!!! Period party!!!! Wahooo congrats

IsItIorAreTheOthersCrazy · 01/05/2015 19:47

gin that's great news! Think of anything you want to ask and write them down. Take questions, pen and paper with you. When I went they overloaded me with info and I forgot most of it. DH did the asking/writing on appointment 2 and it was much better!

rufus any news? Please don't stress about things, they symptoms are rubbish but when you get a BFP you'll be miles ahead in managing the hormones!

Ain It's strange how AF can be so horrible and yet make you happy. I've actually enjoyed having some over the last year (had almost none for the 5 years before that - combination of pcos and contraception )

AbFab when you start the clomid, try and make sure you relax. It's made me completely exhausted and it's hard to explain the emotional mess I become. It's regressed me back to being 14 - being completely in love with DH, furious, upset and horny, switching around like mad!

And yes, we have picked names. Have also decided we won't find out the sex and the other day I was thinking through the practicalities of a nice white piece of wood that we could use to measure our daughters height every year on her birthday ignoring the chances of having a DS ive decided I'm going to have a girl
It's madness really but sometimes it really cheers me up to imagine it.

AbFab86 · 02/05/2015 08:19

Woop Gin we like quick appointments! Definitely write your questions down. It's so easy to be sidetracked and forget.

Isit I will make sure to book myself a massage during the clomid time then! Haha Grin When did you start noticing the symptoms? I'd really like to start doing yoga. They do classes at the gym but they're at 7pm. I'm usually attached to the sofa by that time!

Is Rosie still about after her BFP? Rosie I'd love to know how you're getting on!

RoseBud2015 · 02/05/2015 10:36

IsIt I took your advice and sat my DH down to break the news that if he thinks I'm crazy now, just TTC, than he might need to build himself a shelter when I start the clomid!! Shock I'm a pretty emotional person at the best of times but I have a feeling crazy might be going to a whole new level..... at least this way he has warning and (hopefully) wont take any outbursts personally!

Ab sorry to hear about your Grandad Flowers - have you got a date for the funeral now? How long will you be coming back to the UK for?

Ain Yay for AF!!!! Did it come all by itself?? Amazing!!! I hope you had some bottles of wine to celebrate last night! I've heard it's a good cure for AF cramp and nausea Wink

Ab I'm on day 4 of progesterone today and have been feeling quite nauseous, headachey and emotional on it- might be psychological or the sudden rush of hormones? Either way it's definitely doing something because my cramping has pretty much disappeared. That's great that you wont have much teaching when you start the clomid- no such luck for me! My college doesn't believe in study leave Hmm!!!

Gin Woop for consultation on Thursday! Things seem to be moving along now for most of us! It's such a huge relief isn't it?!

Rufus How are you feeling? Hope you are ok?! Flowers

Popcorn Any updates? Any symptoms so far or have you changed your mind with ov date?

Ponty Has AF arrived for you yet lovely?? I might have missed it! Hope you are ok too and the GP ups your meds soon! Flowers

7 more days of progesterone for me and then we can hopefully finally get this clomid show on the road!

Oh, and DH & I always discuss baby names, future family holidays together and who we would want the nursery to be! It's one of our favourite pastimes! It cheers me up too ItIs and helps me to feel more positive! Smile

AbFab86 · 02/05/2015 13:57

Haha Rose it's one of our favourite pastimes too!! I'm on day 4 of my progesterone too so we might be cycle buddies! AF came 4 days after the last progesterone tablet last time. What days are you taking clomid on? I've been told to have it 2-6. Sorry you won't get any benefit of study leave. To be honest it's the little ones that wind me up more so I may still be somewhat 'irritable' at work Grin

AbFab86 · 02/05/2015 14:04

Forgot to say - the progesterone has made me feel really nauseous too. I've felt hungover all week! If I didn't know I hadn't ovulated this month I'd be thinking they were proper symptoms.

We're back in the UK next weekend for my grandad's funeral, just for 3 days. I've ordered a load of random baby making stuff off amazon already Grin Will be buying some FRERs too because they're ridiculously expensive over here. Stocking up on Conceive Plus too.

RoseBud2015 · 03/05/2015 07:53

Ab I've been told to take it day 2-5. I wonder whether it being prescribed for 4days per cycle instead of the usual 5 days, is on purpose or a mistake? Just counted the tablets and have 28! That's enough for 7 cycles at 4 tablets a time...... think I may have to confirm with clinic on Tues.
Oh and side effects. I was only saying to DH the other day that if I didn't know better I would think I was having symptoms! Even my temp is rising Hmm

Fingers crossed AF won't arrive for you over next weekend! I'm supposed to be going camping.... no chance if AF arrives!

AbFab86 · 03/05/2015 09:28

Oh god I can't imagine camping with AF! Mind you, I can't imagine camping at the best of times Grin I'll be travelling back from the UK on Monday so will be taking my clomid with me just in case it comes early.

I've never heard of it being taken days 2-5 either, but then I haven't done too much research into when it can be taken. I know it's taken early for one reason and later for another....not that I can remember the reasons!
