Has anyone got pregnant after having a polyp removed?

My partner has just been diagnosed with a uteran polyp and we have now got to go through the process of having it removed before trying to get pregnant. She had no inkling that it was there - it was just found as part of routine tests, so it's a bit of a shock. What's the process, how long does it take. How long does it take to heal? We will be talking to the doctor, but are waiting for them to call.

Hi,

Oh yes I've had one of these - it was found whilst they were operating on me for another gynae condition which was preventing me from readily conceiving. I conceived two months post surgery.

Uterine polyps are in themeselves harmless but they can interfere with ovulation as they send out hormones. They are often congenital (i.e there since birth).

It will be removed by general anaethesia and they will probably do a laparoscopy or diathermy to remove it. There will be no lasting effects of this polyp being removed - they are very similar to fibroids. She wil require a couple of days off work post operation to recover.

Any other questions feel free to ask.

With best wishes

Thanks. She's had it removed now and we are trying to conceive via IUI so fingers crossed.

Oh, I am so scared. I've got a polyp as well.

I had one...removed by hysteroscopy as a day case with no problems. The surgeon told me at the time it would have no effect on my chances of conceiving and I had four subsequent pregnancies. I only wish I hadn't worried so much at the time and I hope you can both set your minds at rest
