Fertility Monitors - advice please

Me and DP are thinking of investing in a fertilty monitor to figure out my best ov days
As my cycle the last few months has bee 35 days and am on 36 days and no AF yet (but no preg symtoms)

Can anyone recommend which was is the best?

Have been looking at the Clearblue one in boots which is a £100

Want something reliable - obviously!

There are certainly cheaper ways to get used to your cycle. I have just bought myself a BBT thermometer, to chart my daily temperatures (£12) and CM is a really good (free ) guide to your fertile time which I am hoping will be enough to get the BFP!!
Sorry if I am hijacking your original question but the monitors are so expensive.

I am sure there are some wonderful ladies on here who will know which one to go for though... just thought I would put my 2 pennies in hope you don't mind.

I am still getting used to my cycle and as its a bit longer than the norm i just assumed the fertility monitor was our best bit

I'm not worried about the cost implications i just want something that tells me if its a good or bad day to be bding!

If you're not worried about the cost, then I don't suppose a monitor would be much different to charting your temps and cm. Good luck!!

I got a persona moniter from ebay - u can reset it for yourself and give it all a wipe over - obviosuly buy your sticks each month, I found it excellent.

I use the CBFM although this is only my first month.

I have always used the CB OV sticks previously along with temp and CM.

Just be aware that if you are not pg this cycle and your cyles are longer then some of the monitors don't work properly.
I think (although check) that they need your cycle to be less than 42 days.....which it sounds like yours usually is but worth me mentioning I think!!!

I hope that you get your BFP instead of your monitor this month retrogirl.

Hi retrogirl - just wanted to chip in too! I've started using the CBFM this month too...I thought about getting the ov sticks, but felt this was a better option for me. It somehow seems to take some of the guesswork out of it all. I like things that do a bit of the thinking for me!!

It is expensive, especially as you have to buy the sticks as well as the monitor, but I thought it was worth it for a BFP Hope it works!!

That was probably no help at all?!?

I too got a Persona monitor (from ebay first time around - and got pregnant 2nd month of using it, having been trying almost 18mths!). Am using Persona again now to try for no.2. this time it was generously given to me by a fellow mumsnetter!

I am going to jump in here too, I used persona, ov sticks, the microscope thingy - but actually best was temperature and checking the cervical mucus. I plotted temp on graph paper. Somehow you get to understand your body much better, whereas the others are expensive and seem to rely on a more regular cycle ( mine swung between 32-36 days). Invest in a good book about nutrition and the female reproductive system (some are really fascinating) and it puts you in control iykwim!

Taking my temperature did not work for me - I stressed way too much about every little variance.

the ClearBlue fertility monitor works really well for me - it fits nicely into my routine, just one thing to do first thing in the morning then you're done. It's also something I can put down and leave alone during the 2ww, which minimises stress for me.

Artoo........a quick CBFM question for you.
My re-set time is 9am.
My AF came today at 12.30 so it says to begin tomorrow as CD1.......is that really important?

Cos if I have clomid and my head saying that today is CD1 but the monitor being a day behind....I am going to be confused!!!
Can I just reset it tomorrow as CD2????

I hope you know why/ if it's important!!!

Hey coggy,

I've not found any reason why the CBFM has to be set that way, so if it makes life easier for you I'd be inclined to set the day number to something you'll understand.

Mine certainly asked for test sticks from more than one day in advance of O, so I really can't see this causing any problems.

i have been using ovulation sticks for 8 months with no joy bought CBFM this month and hey presto im 5 weeks gone, good luck xxxxxx if you can afford one then i would most definatly suggest it x

Hi guys - quick question if you dont mind: on what days did you start getting high or peak readings? I'm on day 10 of the CBFM and day 11 of my cycle and it still says low (I have on average a 30 day cycle)...

Thanks for that Artoo.....I couldn't see that it would make any difference but I wanted someone else to tell me!!!!

KitKat.......I have only used it for one month so far (just started my second CD4 today).
I OV late in my cycle so last month I had HIGH fertility on CD14 and 15 then PEAK on 16 & 17.
Some people have more than five days of HIGH apparently and some people go straight from LOW to PEAK....it all depends on your hromone strength I guess.
BTW.....my last month's cycle was 27 days.

It's annoying OVing late cos I had to use all 20 sticks even though about six are wasted cos I knew that after OV they'd be LOW.
I'm hoping it'll ask me to start weeing later this month and only use ten sticks otherwise it will be a very pricey gaget!!!!!

Thanks Coggy. I got a high reading this morning (CD12). I'm sure the booklet said that you're likely to use more sticks the 1st month, and then as it gets to know you, you'll use less. Hopefully anyway - otherwise you're right, it's going to be a tad pricey! Having said that, my cycle is about 30 days so I'll be up to my ears in ov sticks!!!

Well I was a bit frustrated cos I used my 20th stick two days before AF which was clearly uneccesary!!!

I did as I was told as it was the first cycle and we shall see what happens this month!!!

Glad you got your first HIGH.

They do love to squeeze as much money out of us as possible!! Oh well, here's hoping it works for us - any price is it worth it for a BFP.
