Ttc after copper coil (iud)

Hi - new to the board!

I'm 27 and had the copper coil in for a year and a half. I was wondering if anyone had any experience of ttc after IUD removal.

Whilst I had the coil in my cycle was 32 days with a heavy period lasting 7 days. The first 3 cycles once I had the coil out were still 32 days with a light 7 day period. I also ovulated around day 17.

My last period only lasted 4 days and was very light. Not sure how long this cycle will be but I have ovulated on day 11 - according to clear blue opk.

I was under the impression that because the copper coil was non hormanal it wouldnt affect my cycle. Has anyone had anything similar or have any ideas?

We have been ttc for 4 months.

Thanks!

I had one, and my periods were definitely heavier when it was there. I conceived, by recollection, maybe about 4 months after it was removed (though i can't recall specifically; we hadn't started trying initially, and once we did it only took one month). I wasn't tracking ovulation or anything, but i certainly noticed a change in AF. The copper is still an irritation to the womb (which is why an embryo won't implant), so you will still need to let your body deal with getting back to 'normal'. Good luck!

Morning bubbles - I had my mirena taken out last summer - I got pregnant within 8 weeks but unfortunately had a miscarriage (not connection to the coil tho!!!) so I think it's just a case of how long is a piece of string!!! Everyone is different I guess.
We're now Ttc again miscarriage was in oct but my doctor said when I had my coil out as soon as its out you're fertile - I didn't have periods when my coil was in tho.
Good luck hope it happens soon for you x

Had mine taken out in January, caused AF to be a week late. AF now much shorter too. Cycle has returned to normal though :) Now it is out it won't be affecting your chances of TTC.

Thanks for the replies guys. It'll be interesting to see how long this cycle is.

Now if only we could actually get round to doing the deed when I'm actually ovulating! We always seem to go full steam ahead in the beginning! then it falls by the way when we actually need to!

Newbubbles I think we might be living each other's lives! I'm 27, TTC#1, first month of trying was November. My cycles are also v similar to yours- 30-35 days, shorter periods though. They have been a little more unsettled since the coil came out, but I think that it probably to be expected when you've had a foreign body inside you for so long. It doesn't contain hormones, but that doesn't mean that it can't upset rhythms. Copper is also antbacterial, so I'm guessing it can alter uterine / vaginal flora.

I don't really have any advice or wisdom, but just to say I'm in the boat with you! Come join me on the Just Shagging thread if you want Smile

I had a copper coil removed when I was looking to get pregnant, my cycle was approx 31 days. I used the cheap strips you can get on email to check my ovulation days, had a faint double line, did the deed and fell pregnant with 1st baby. Took just one cycle. Maybe I was lucky, but I expected it to take longer so it was a surprise.

I think it helps when you are not stressing about it.

Hi Mummysara - a tad off subject here but just briefly I had a mc in oct last year been Ttc since December so on the 4th month.
I've got an app on my phone and this week is "the week" the ap said today I am "high fertile" - ovulation in 4 days but only one line on my ovulation strips - never really used them before - have you got any advice? At what point should 2 lines appear?!?!?! X

I'm really sorry for late reply.
Sorry to hear about your mc, I know what that feels like first hand. I had one in oct 2012. I resorted to the copper coil after mc bcos I didn't want to experience that pain again.
I kept a track of my periods since my mc to determine my cycle. It ranged from 25-31 days, if your not sure when you are ovulating. There are a few signs. You can do a number of things use the strips daily, which might be costly, you can measure your body temperate. You body temp will usually increase by a degree when ovulating, you can keep an eye on your discharge. When its clear and stretchy that's also an indicator.

I use to write my temp in my diary everyday. when I noticed the discharge I used the strip.

Hope this helps
