Stopping TTC due to work - support needed

Hi,

have been on the last few buses, Was TTC #1. DP and I both very excited. However last week was offered a brilliant work opportunity (5 minute commute rather than an hour, lower work load, up a pay scale etc) but would mean putting off TTC a few months. I knowthis doesnt sound like the end of the world but I was so pleased to have gone back to a normal cycle after 9 years on the pill that its really getting me down. Evn though i know that actually getting settled in a new job near home will make life so much easier when we can TTC again I cant help but feel conflicted about it!

Has anyone else been in this situation and had to put something they want so much on hold even though in a few months it will be the right decision?

Sorry for the moan girls !

You have every right to have a moan. It's a typical Sod's law example isn't it!
The job sounds great with lower workload etc, and therefore will suit you while pregnant.
As much as we try to, it's imposdible to plan when a baby will turn up. I've been trying for 2 years (sadly a few MCs on this bumpy journey) and although i would have no way chosen this path at all, I in hindsight am pleased that I have still opted for opportunities when they've faved me, and still kept TTC as when all your energy is gocussed on TTC it makes IT even more stressful.
If I were you, I'd keep trying regardless. You never know when your BFP will turn up and you'll still have a good 7 months of work ahead of you afterwards.

Hi Nevlet congrats on the job offer! How long would you need to work for new employer to qualify for maternity benefits?

Glomerulus · 28/02/2015 20:00

Hi Nevlet, I'm in a similar position and DH and I have decided to pause TTC for a couple of months - rationally it's the right thing to do but I completely get where you're coming from - it's a pain isn't it?!

No advice but lots of sympathy. I'm sure it'll be worth it in the long run!

You only need to be in a role for a week before conceiving before being eligible for maternity pay so if you can manage the reaction from a new workplace you may not need to wait as long as you think.

Thanks for all the responses its comforting! I start in mid april and yes only need a week before conception so think will just stop being careful about a month in and see what happens
