Hello, new to this so hope I'm writing in the correct place! I'm a little confused and would like a little help on when I possibly conceived. Unfortunately I don't know when my last period was. I had intercourse on 16th December and 26th December. On the 1st January I had what I have been told was an implantation bleed, it was slightly heavier but definitely not a normal period. I had a scan last week and was told I am around 8 weeks 2 days. Obviously considering the scans can be a few days out, would I have been more likely to conceive on the 16th or 26th as I had the bleed 5days later?
I hope that all makes sense. I have asked my doctor etc but they don't seem very willing to help me.
Thank you

Hi Ruby,

Implantation bleeding I believe happens around 6-12 days after conception. I had bleeding 7 days after when checking my CF. I would have thought that you conceived on 26/12, but I am by no mean an expert?!

I would have thought that too, it's so confusing.
Thanks for your help Smile

YY to baffers. Congratulations

So chasingtherainbow are you saying you agree with baffers?

Yes Ruby. I think it is most likely your 2nd date. Plus 10 days is at least a weeks difference in dates so you would know x

Ruby46 · 24/02/2015 15:37

Exactly what I thought. I wrote this same question somewhere else on here by mistake :\ all the women said that this is wrong and that they plus two weeks when they give you your date as they go from the LMP so if they say your 8 weeks for eg then your actually 6. Well seeing as I don't know when my LMP was I was a bit confused at this. I phoned the clinic where I had the scan and they said that they don't do any of that plus two weeks stuff, they measure the baby and depending on what size it is obviously depends on how many weeks you are. It's all finally making sense! X

Whilst the clinic doesn't 'add on 2 weeks' to the date, the dates produced tv the ultrasound machine are all calibrated to in life those weeks. At our 8 week viability scan following IVF, I was measuring 8+2, but conception had taken place 6 weeks before. If that makes sense?

Excuse my fat thumbs there!! I mean by and include Blush

Ruby46 · 25/02/2015 11:29

It sort of makes sense lots of people are giving me different answers!

Yes when you are told you are 8+2 conception happened around 6 weeks beforehand. But I literally had sex once in December (on the 26th funnily enough) and I am now most definitely 11 +1! So if they told you you are 8+2 last week you must only have conceived around the 5th January which sounds like it doesn't add up at all! you should be the same as me and told you were 10 weeks last week.

I have never heard of any midwife/dr/ultrasound saying "you're measuring at 8 weeks" when they really mean 10 weeks as they "don't do that "adding 2 weeks thing", that's really odd and not surprised you are confused!
