Boxers vs briefs

Hi girlies,

My question is probably silly, but I've been reading lots of different views on this over the net and thought maybe some of you can give an advice.

We are ttc (first time), and I can't wait. I read somewhere briefs are not good for sperm quality, but my dp really seems to love them (he only wears briefs). Do you think it's true they are not good? Should I ask him to start wearing boxers?

He is healthy otherwise, not overweight, doesn't smoke, alcohol in moderation.

Thanks in advance everyone and good luck to all of you who are ttc! X

To be honest, being a briefs man alone probably isn't the be all and end all when it comes to making a baby. Briefs aren't recommended as they hold the testicles close to the body, keeping their temperature higher than they would be in boxers, and I believe this makes the wee swimmers less active. How much less and whether it's significant, I'm not sure.

Men are always fertile as they're always making sperm. You only release one fertile egg per month, and some months may release none at all. Then, each month your chance of conceiving is 25%. To be honest, I'd continue with what you're doing. Be healthy- no big boozy nights, eat properly etc, and if I was you maybe learn about your body so when you are actually ovulating, you know and can make the most of it. I'd recommend the book 'Taking charge of your fertility' and buying a basal body thermometer.

The conception rollercoaster is 'trying' enough without you second guessing the small stuff. Good luck x
