So my period is due on Wednesday, and I'm getting impatient.

First thing this morning, I did a first response early response test, which was decidedly negative - no faint lines for me!

Does that pretty much mean not pregnant then?

Probably. Or too early to test: if you read the guff it says it CAN get a positive at X many days etc, not that it WILL.

All it means is that the test cannot detect hcg in your urine. Depending on how sensitive the test is some can give you a bfp before ad is due but it's not reliable and varies from person to person. For some people there won't be enough hcg excreted from your blood to your urine to get a bfp until well after af was due even on a sensitive test.

Thanks. I know I need to have enough HCG, I guess I'm just asking what proportion of pregnant women would have undetectable HCG levels at this stage - ie is it 99% sure that a pregnancy would be detectable, or is it quite common to test negatively ...

I'd try again on Wednesday before coming to any conclusions! I've never tested until a couple of days after AF was due (can't stand seeing negatives Smile) so no personal experience, but wouldn't put myself out of running just yet.

I just don't want to get my hopes up too much if it's unlikely. Though in the absence of AF, I'm not giving up!
