Hello ladies.

Well, me and my partner have started TTC again after a miscarriage at the beginning of October at 11 weeks. I've been using OPKs since christmas, and I haven't got a positive on them yet - not even much of a line!

Is it possible im not ovulating due to my miscarriage? My periods have been normal for two cycles now (26 days, which was normal before my mc) but the OPKs are telling me ovulation isn't happening...

Any advice would be more than welcome as me and my partner are worried!

Its sad you had a m-c but the fact you got pregnant is a positive thing. Is there any chance you are missing the positive ovulation? Testing too early or late? Do you have egg white cervical mucus at some point during your cycle? The egg white cervical mucus is the most fertile and can stretch about 5cm or 6cm between your thumb and finger. Even this doesn't guarantee ovulation though.

Having regular periods does not mean you are ovulating. There is a possibility that your eggs aren't quite mature enough and you may need a drug called clomid. Your Gp can do a simple test called the day 21 progesterone test. You need a score of 30 or above but ideally 40+.

You could also go to boots the chemist and buy a fertility monitor. This may give a little insight into what's happening possibly? Basically it involves taking your temperature with a special thermometer first thing before moving. Before ovulation your temperature should be lower, after ovulation your temperature should be higher and remain high for about 13 or 14 days.

What time of day are you doing your opks at? The lh surge can be short lived and easily missed. Blood tests with the gp would reveal more.

How quickly did you get a bfn or zero hcg in blood after mc?

When are you testing?

Jadexclark · 21/02/2015 22:25

That's what I thought violet, but we were using OPKs before to get pregnant and now we've decided to start again, the OPKs aren't showing any hint of ovulation. I have noticed cervical mucus, but not an awful lot - only slightly. I've had it for the past two days now, and OPKs have been negative. I might just go and see my GP and see what he decides is best. im testing every day at 2pm, and holding my urine in from when I wake in order to get a half decent result.

brickie, I can't remember exactly, but I think it was a good few weeks. By November I think they were pretty much back to normal.

I have an old style clearblue monitor sitting in a drawer if you'd like it?
Pm me if so.

First morning urine is usually the most concentrated I think.

Definity have lots of sex now if you have some egg white mucus. Every other day at least.

VioletMoon4683 · 21/02/2015 22:32

How old are you OP?

Jadexclark · 21/02/2015 22:40

I'll keep testing but with first morning urine from now on violet - thank you. And I'm 24.

I've read that fmu is only for trying to get a bfp. The lh surge more normally happens late morning to early afternoon do that's the best time to test. I wouldn't hold my urine from waking too 2pm though..not only could you get a uti you may not be getting the lh surge showing up in your urine as it's not a completely current sample iygwim.

Jadexclark · 21/02/2015 22:49

Ah yeah I see what you mean. I'll definitely take that on board and just go for a wee as normal, and carry on testing at 2pm... Or do you think I should test earlier?
