Please can someone help me out, I think I'm going mad. Dh and I have been ttc for 3.5 years - no medical reason why not apparently ?? Each month I get 3-5 days of spotting before and after my actual period. I'm currently on day 8 of spotting but no proper blood. Caved in and did a test - bfn! Any ideas what's happening?

I'm not sure really but could it be low progesterone? Have you had blood tests?

Do you know which cycle day that you ovulate on? This might help to concentrate your efforts at the right time.

Have you tried other aids like fertility lubricant?

In am not an expert but I believe there is evidence that spotting before a period is indicating luteal phase problems. The luteal phase is ideally two weeks so that the embryo can firmly implant into a lush uterus that is not shedding away. Spotting means that your uterine lining is giving way. This is sometimes due to low progesterone levels. If you spot for five days before a period it means that the poor embryo might not even get a chance to properly implant before the lining starts shedding off.

You may wish to consult your gp. Go in confidently saying this above, and demand a Day 21 blood progesterone test to see if your progesterone levels are optimal and if not optimal if they can prescribe your progesterone supplements.

Have had both blood tests and all fine. Period finally turned up this afternoon after 8 days of spotting - that isn't right is it? Think I will see the gp.
