Hello,

DH recovering from small op and won't be able to dtd during my fertile week. Thought we'd give AI a go. I've done it once before and it was a real faff and I just wasn't sure it was right.

I was planning to just use kids medicine syringe and mix semen with bit of conceive plus (hoping to get more in the syringe).

Any thoughts/tip/advice will be greatly received.

Thank you

Many here swear by it. Here's the gist -

  1. Go to tescos and by yourself the 5 ml syringes - get a few.
  2. Also get a clean container - clean dry plastic cups are fine. Sme day to avoid metal or glass. A lid is useful
  3. Get some conception friendly lube like Pre Seed if you cannot manage to lubricate yourself.
  4. Get some pillows to stick under you.

Then - once his sample is in the cup, some say let it be for ten mins so it's easy to suck into syringe, don't leave any longer than that. How you use the pre seed is up to you. Some mix it with the sperm and then suck the load up in syringe, others insert pre seed inside the lady and then inject the sperm in.

Have your hips up high, and get him to first I set the syringe all the way in, then squeeze to squirt the semen out, then leave the syringe in and lay wi hips up for half an hour.

Thanks very much for replying.

So you don't need a catheter or anything? The syringe isn't very long though? Not even half length of willy surely?!

Some people use catheters and speculums. People can conceive through shallow ejaculation too, and a syringe isn't that shallow.

Ok. Thank you focus.

Hi I've used this method successfully 3 times now. Average conception time 4 cycles.
Warning TMI galore...

My method was for DH to have a wank into a container, while he was doing this I would shove the syringe under my boob to try and warm it to body temp.
Then i would insert the syringe in my vagina, arouse myself and when I felt I was close to orgasm I would press the plunger.
I would would prop my bum on a pillow and stay that way for an hour.

I did once use the sperm gels and I did get pregnant that cycle. I've always felt the most important thing was to use the sperm as quickly as possible and if possible orgasm.

We were also certain of when I ovulated and would inseminate 2 days before I ovulated, day I ovulated and a day or two afterwards just incase I was late.

My DH preferred container was the lid of Johnsons cotton buds. My mum asked recently why we had so many cotton buds, talk about a quick subject change!

Hi! Just popping on to say myself and a few others on the February bus use this method. Feel free to come over and chat to us! I use a cathetar with syringe attached. The Cath is 13cm long. I think the chances of conception are much the same as dtd . I got a BFP on my 4th cycle but sadly had an early mc but I'm back trying again! So it can def happen! Good luck and like I said we are on feb bus if you are trying this cycle and want to join!

Thanks ivedoneit!!

Also thx for invite sparkly, but I'm an old timer with unexplained so don't do the buses I'm afraid. Good luck to all those on there though!

No worries at all! Just to let you know- two of the others are the same.. One of which is 43, had one successful IVF and is trying AI naturally now. Wishing you best of luck Flowers

Just wondering why people do this? Apart from if someone is recovering from an op like OP. Or same sex couples. Am i missing out on something?

allchatnicknamesgone · 06/02/2015 17:40

Hi badger.
Obviously I'm doing it this month because hubby can't physically have sex, but I did do it about a year ago also when DH was just knackered and feeling the pressure of performing and couldn't keep it up long enough!
