a question about pregnancy tests

you know how all those tests say they are accurate from first day that your period is due. Well do they presume that everyone has a 4 week cycle? My cycle can be 5-6 weeks but would a pg test be accurate 4 weeks from last period or would i really have to wait up to 6 weeks for it to be accurate cos somehow that doesn't make sense?

How much do you know about your cycle and when you ovulate? Most people ovulate on approximately day 14 of their cycle ( a tradional 28 day cycle). However,as your cycles are longer (like mine) you could ovulate later than this.

Basically, once conception has taken place (around the time of ovulation) it takes about 10-14 days for your hormones to rise to a sufficient level for a pregnancy test to show positive. So if you don't ovulate until day 20 for instance it will not be until day 30-34 until you show positive on a test .

However, somebody who ovulates on day 14 (28 day cycle)could show positive as early as day 24 - 4 days before period due. Your long cycles may indicate that it will take about 5/6 weeks so show positive but depends where in your cycle you ovulate. If you know which day you ovulate allow 10-14 days after to do a test as otherwise hormone levels would be too low to show up.

they go positive - after ovulation and the fetus has started producing hormone - so if you have a short cycle you would have ovulated sooner and if long cycle later so they are depenent on thatr -

you typically ovulate 14 days before your period comes...

fets usually producing enough hormone about 12-13 days after fertilization

hope this helps

good luck
