What the hell is going on with my cycles?!

Hi All,

Looking for some guidance!

I came off pill a year ago, and ever since periods have been irregular (28-45 days). We are TTC and I have been trying to chart ovulation but have got nowhere with it, as my periods are so all over the place.

Back in October my skin became so hideous I went to Drs, convinced I had PCOS. I am slightly overweight and had the kind of hormonal acne to make a teenager weep.

My blood tests came back as:
LH 4.5
FSH: 2.7

The bloods were drawn the day before I started my period, so CD 43.

My Doctor said she was happy with them and I was to continue TTC as normal.

The following month I had a slap bang 28 day cycle- I was pretty shocked, so tracked ovulation again. AF was due on 18 December, taking into account my average length of cycle dates.

No AF arrived, so I got excited. Have taken 3 tests in that time- all BFN. Fairly convinced now I am not preggo. My period is now very late- in fact today I am on CD72. I have no symptoms of AF, or a BFP. However- my skin is next level disgusting, with some of the worst hormonal, cystic acne on my chin I have ever seen.

I have in a desperate attempt to kick start AF been taking Agnus Castus for 2 weeks, and nothing. I am at my wits end!

Have Dr's appointment again tomorrow- does anyone have any advice or suggestions on what to push my Dr for?

Any help or clarity on those blood test results also gratefully received

I'm not a PCOS expert, but I'd say the blood taken the day before your AF is rendered pretty useless to gage anything. You should have bloods twice in your cycle (day 3 and day 21), but I appreciate with irregular cycles that is difficult. I was sent for scan at the same time as the bloods were taken to check for pcos, cysts

I would push for more tests and a bit of understanding from your GP. Such irregular periods most definitely need further investigation. Don't be fobbed off.

Also the pill often masked underlying issues, so if you came off it a year ago it can cause havoc but you should have settled down a bit by now.

Good luck.

Didn't want to read and run but wanted to just say to insist on more tests. I know what living with hormonal acne is like and I believe it's all tied in with why you still haven't had a period and no BFP as yet. It can be hard on insisting especially to doctors etc but you're fully entitled to get some answers. Good luck.

Hi,
You sound quite similar to how I was before ds1 (and same again as we ttc dc2!!). My doc made me come in for weekly blood tests for 4 weeks to check hormone levels. I don't know what the results were but I was referred to the fertility clinic and found to have polycystic ovaries (tho must be mild as I don't seem to have any other issues). Anyway the month before I was due to start clomid, we conceived!

I was using an app at the time to track all this stuff and could pretty much pinpoint conception, and I'm sure I worked out at the time that in that cycle I must've ovulated within 7-10 days after my period ended which was much earlier than expected and probably why we had perhaps missed our windows previously. I was using ovulation sticks at the time too. Waste of time. I think sex at least 3 times a week is the best way to make sure you don't miss anything!!Grin
