Can a cold at ovulation time affect things?

Hello wise MNers,

Some advice before I overthink things any further would be useful!

I ovulated on the Saturday afternoon. We'd DTD Tuesday, Thursday, Friday x 2, and Saturday afternoon. Anyway - sometime on Saturday I started feeling a bit grizzly and scratchy throat etc.

By the end of 1 DPO I had a raging cold - runny nose and the works. 2 DPO cold has now been joined by (sorry TMI) gassiness of a a nasty variety and I generally feel bleaaaah....

I generally have a great immune system and hardly ever get anything, and to be safe i for the flu vaccine in October as I knew we'd be trying soon.

Does anyone know if my chances this month have already been bungled up by this blasted cold that timed itself perfectly with OV and post OV? I've read about how women's immune systems try to attack sperm cells and frankly if they're attacking me with such vengeance and running water through my nostrils I don't know what they've done with poor DH's swimmers :(

(*sneezes absolutely massively and thinks these sneezes if nothing else will surely uproot anything that may have been thinking of rooting inside!)

Haha, you do have a very novel way of putting it! My acupuncturist is constantly telling me to wrap up warn as I had the flu when I first started seeing him. He tells me that a cold can slow ovulation down but if you had already ovulated, I don't know that it could hurt. And I have never heard of immune systems attacking sperm, where did you read that??

And a sneeze is definitely not enough to uproot any rooters! haha.

What cycle are you on ttc?

Focusfocus · 19/01/2015 14:03

Hehe, I am on a whopping big cycle.......1!

I think TTC for planners like me are always a ridiculous time because since I can remember I have planned everything in my life and am only too aware TTC isn't about that.

But for TTC like everything else - I put in 1.5 years of planning before we began this month. Balanced our diets, saw nutritionists, got some basic bloodwork done, lost 8 kgs to get BMI down to 23 got a scan (me) for something else, went on pre conception vitamins both of us, read all the pre pregnancy/TTC books out there, and have done fertility awareness/natural family planning for a whopping six years now!

And then after a year of all this, we started trying this January (trying for an autumn baby for work reasons) and voila - 3dpo I turn up on mumsnet with ridiculous questions about colds?!?!

haha, you should do stand up! Very funny way to explain things. You are unlike me then, I never wanted any more kids (have DD) and then it changed, wanted more. And I wanted them yesterday!! This was November 2013, was only able to start ttc September 2014 due to medical issue. SO its been a long 4 months for me & I know it is going to be a very long road for me (known fertility issues).

I am like you though, a planner. and I get very frustrated when I cannot control things. I hope its a smooth ride for you and you get your autumn baby!

A cold is fine by the sounds of it. If you had serious vomiting and diarreah with a temperature then I'd understand the concern, but I think you are safe. FYI. I'm doing ivf and putting embryos back in tmw and those are the only reasons to possibly not put them back. They would go ahead if I had sniffles!
Good luck. Hope you crack it in month 1!

Hi allchat* it's been a while! Sounds like things are moving along swiftly with you, good luck for your embryo transfer!! Wishing you lots of luck Flowers

Focusfocus · 19/01/2015 15:49

Thanks both of you guys and all the very best with the embryo transfer!

This TTC lark is a strange place - full of hopes, plans, heartache, joy - pretty much all the feelings life has is contained in the TTC journey. Spouting philosophy - and I have only just entered the zone! Good luck all around

Hi can'tbelieve! Yep, following the mc in Nov I'm thinking it's probably wise to pop one in now. Excited and full of dread at the same time. x

Yes, now is a better time than any!

Hope today went well Flowers

Well, when I had my DC, the month I got pregnant was after having norovirus for a large part of the month. Felt like death, only DTD twice and late on after recovery. Was sure nothing would happen and impatiently waited for my period to get on with another cycle.. and waited... So illness isn't necessarily a problem.
