Anyone else had a copper coil removed?

Hello,

I had my coil removed on Monday and my AF is due in the next 1-3 days. However I am not experiencing any of my usual symptoms, usually my boobs are incredibly sore and I get very bloated, nothing so far. I therefore assume that my AF has been delayed (very unusual for me) and was wondering whether this was normal after getting the coil removed. As it doesn't have hormones I didn't think this would be the case :s

I haven't had it removed but when it was put in it brought on an early period (also very unusual for me as I am regular to the day), and my cycle then went straight back to normal but shifted back a few days in line with the earlier period. It wouldn't surprise me if the removal of the coil altered the cycle for a period before it settled back down again (although there are no hormones, it is a change for the body that it needs to get used to) so it wouldn't overly concern me. However if it worries you I would give the gp a ring to make sure if your period doesn't arrive as expected

Thanks Petula, I had no changes at all when it was put in hence my confusion now. Good to hear that some changes are normal though :) Will wait another week and then if it still hasn't arrived (to be fair it isn't actually late yet but I usually get a fair bit of warning that it is coming which I am not getting) I will ask my GP.

My periods changed when I had a copper coil. I hate to think what the other one would do. So it was a bit odd having it removed and getting back into the normal 'swing'

nightandthelight · 17/01/2015 19:05

Was your AF late at all the first month after removal Katy? My AF got longer when I had it put in but my cycle didn't. I am just desperate for AF to arrive on time as I can't start TTC until it is over!

I had mine in for 3 years. I chose it because of it not having hormones. It never affected my cycles at all. When I had it out they just carried on as normal - until the 4th cycle when I got my BFP!
Maybe something else is affecting your pre-menstrual symptoms. I've always found mine to vary month to month. Stress and poor diet always made them worse. Maybe you ovulated later? Is there any chance you could pe pregnant? Sperm hangs around for a few days, so could still be there after removal Wink

Good luck Flowers

Hopefully to reassure you about the aftereffects of the copper coil, I had mine out on the last day of my previous cycle, and got my bfp today. good luck.

nightandthelight · 18/01/2015 07:00

Congrats on your BFPs guys, such wonderful news! You have me thinking that I might be pregnant now Frolic although I don't have any of the early pregnancy symptoms that people on here report! Have always been sure about my pre AF symptoms but I have never been as knowledgeable about these things as I have since deciding to TTC, maybe this does happen some months and I have just never noticed :)

Good luck night Flowers

Thanks Frolic. AF due today but no sign so far. Need to learn to be patient :)

How are you doing night?

nightandthelight · 21/01/2015 16:23

Still no sign :( less stressy about it now though, am just accepting that it will come along when it is ready. If it goes more than a week late will give my GP a ring to see what they say. thanks for the support ladies :)

Some very light spotting but nothing else so far. I did POAS but it was BFN as expected. Anyone had any experience of the spotting?

Night, I had the same thing when I had mine removed. First period never really showed, just spotting. Had a bit more brownish spotting throughout the next month, then AF arrived as usual and has ever since (10 months ago now)

nightandthelight · 25/01/2015 07:16

Thanks Reni that's reassuring to know :) have no idea though now when my fertile period etc is! Guess I should probably just write off this month and wait for my first real AF :(

I had my copper coil removed last January. Like you I assumed everything would be the same post removal.

My cycle length remained the same but my periods were very different. I was used to a heavy to mid flow lasting 4-6 days. For the first three cycles following removal my periods were very light. They lasted 2-3 days and I could use a panty liner for most of it. I was also very dry (sorry tmi) throughout.

I could see a slight improvement each cycle and then on the fourth cycle it felt more normal.

We conceived on the fifth cycle and I'm currently 34+6 weeks pregnant.

I can't be sure if it was the removal of the coil or other factors but I personally think it was my body adjusting to the removal.

Give your body time to adjust and try not to worry. I think if mine had continued more than 6 months I'd have gone to gp but I was lucky it righted itself.

Just because my periods were different doesn't mean I probably couldn't still fall pregnant it was just cycle 5 when it happened. Probably because I was relaxed and rested being on holiday (who knows).

Good luck and enjoy!

nightandthelight · 25/01/2015 08:35

Thanks pop and congratulations on your pg :) I just need to be patient I think. I have no hope of tracking anything with it like this so when I am not spotting/bleeding will just try to dtd as much as poss and hope for the best. Not holding out much hope until this normalises though. Thanks for all your support ladies :)

Hi night glad you got af today, at least you have a point to start from now. Hopefully see you later on the feb bus! I had my copper coil out in October. Started ttc in my nov cycle, so I've had three cycles (and lots of poas) with nothing but a bfn. Fingers and toes crossed for this month (for both of us) Smile

nightandthelight · 26/01/2015 19:30

Thanks rice and good luck for this month, I have a very good feeling about the Feb bus, see you over there :)

Hi,

I don't think I had any issues when I had mine removed and I conceived on the second month of trying.

We're now trying for baby no.2 so hope it will go a smoothly.
