Conception vitamins

hi, this has probably been done a million times before but are most concepion vitamins the same?

i have just purchased some from savers for a bargain price and looked up pregnacare ones to compare, theres seem to have a few additional things in however the ones i bought have identical ingredients to boots conception support so i am hoping they are ok. has anyone used boots conception support?

Hi ginger, I have had the same confusion about all this! I am just finishing off a packet of pregnacare and then I am moving onto Boots. What decided me wad that I work for the NHS and randomly I was sent a research paper on preconception advice which talked about vitamins. Basically folic acid and vitamin D are v important as is Omega. Iron and Iodine also important. This is what persuaded me to go for the cheaper Boots ones as they have all of those (apart from Omega which I take separately).

oh i didnt know about omega, will add that to the list too. if you have a savers near you theres are o ly £1.99 and are exactly the same. they are called pregnancy vitamins though but it does say on the pack for conception too.

i was wondering about iron as well, i am currently on iron tablets from the gp as i ended up anaemic following complications with mmc. wonder if i am ok to take these with additional iron in, imagine they cant harm?

Ooh thanks for the tip about savers! Might be worth checking with your GP about the iron, not sure if it is one that is just excreted if there is too much like Vitamin C or if it builds up like Vitamin A.

tbh i was prescribed 2 a day by gp then had another incident and went more anaemic and hospital said 3 the said just take 2 if tht is what gp prescribed and i think will be minimal amounts in vits so im sure ill be fine.

I buy the Healthspan.com ones for men and women and omega 3,6 and 9 from there too. They are much cheaper than the pregnacare ones.

do i need all the omegas too?

If you take a fish oil supplement that should provide you with all the omega you need :) just make sure it is fish oil and not cod liver oil (if unsure see what the Vitamin A content is, cod liver oil is very high in it which can be dangerous).
