My last cycles were 26 days long; 28 days long 23 (!) days long. I did ov sticks and would seem to ov at day 17/18. I think therefore I have short luteal phase and plan to seeGP after another 5 months of ttc and possibly will take Agnus Castus. Any other observations/help?

Hey SpeckledHen, you sound just like me. I have never had a 28 day cycle, and when I started TTC I had just 7 days between OV and AF.

Things I take to help my LP:

  1. Vitamin B6 - 50mg - 100mg per day (best taken with a pregnancy multivitamin, or vitamin B complex supplement)
  1. Evening Primrose Oil - 2000mg per day - up to ovulation ONLY - don't take during the LP (I switch to Flax Seed Oil during my LP to ensure I am still getting my essential fatty acids and omega 3 )
  1. Red Raspberry Leaf - supposed to help with your uterus lining, which can also help LP. I take 1000mm daily.

Whilst Agnus Castus can help with luteal phase defect, and a lot of women take it successfully, it is recommended to only take it under the guidance of a herbalist, and not to self-medicate with it. I did take it for a couple of months before I started on clomid, but it didn't seem to make a difference.

The thing that worked best for me was the vitamin B6 - my LP grew from 7 to 10 days with that.

Your plan to see the GP is good, but if you get more evidence of a short LP I would see him sooner rather than later. I went to see my GP after 3 cycles of a short LP, and because I had temperature charts to back up my findings he took me seriously, and started tests right away.

Good luck!

Hugs,
Artoo.
