Anyone give me any advice about having a hysterosalpingography or HSG test?

Hi there guys.
We're having some trouble getting pregnant so I've seen the gynaecologist. We have had all the blood tests, sperm analysis and scan to check for PCOS but how I've got to have this HSG test. It sounds bloody awful...anybody got any experience in this please? Thanks I advance lovely ladies :)

Hi I had one a few years back now, it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be though.

I took a couple of ibuprofen about an hour before as I was told it can give you period type cramps and I took a sanitary pad with me for afterwards as you can get a little bit of leakage from the fluid they use.

It was a little uncomfortable but nothing too bad and I felt able to go shopping and have lunch with friends afterwards

I had it done in July this year. I found it painful (like very bad cramps) even though I had taken painkillers beforehand. I was advised not to take ibuprofen because the pharmacist said it could increase the risk of bleeding.

I was a bit shaky for 20mins or so afterwards. The next couple of days I felt a bit unwell, however this seems to be something I'm prone to following gynae treatment.

I'm not going to lie, having the procedure was grim, but it was over within a few minutes. As soon as everything was removed the pain stopped.

Anything else, just ask.

Hiya, I had this in September. I took some pain killers an hour before and sometimes you're given a dose of antibiotics. I was expecting cramps but I actually didn't get any! I did however have some spotting for a few days afterwards and an oddly short luteal phase that month (11days). It's exactly like a smear test really and not that much longer. Try to relax your muscles as they put the speculum thingy in and lay back and think of England!

By the way, you may have to produce a pee sample for a preg test (to cover their backs) so be sure you are not totally "dry" like I was!!!
