Ttc#1 with cracking caffeine withdrawal headache!

Has anyone got some advice on reducing caffeine consumption whilst ttc?! DH and I decided to ttc on a whim (and using condoms as BC so started straight away) a few days ago and so I thought I should cut down on caffeine ASAP. I've now got a cracking headache and just want to stay in bed all day (although sadly the headache means no interest in DTD!). Is it really necessary to cut down now or can it wait for a BFP? Thankfully it's half term and I am a teacher so hibernating is an option for a few days!

I had the exact same, had a caffeine migraine for a week :( figured I would just drink tea as usual (2-3 cups a day) as am sure the headache was doing more damage Han the caffeine! And I'm not pg yet - figured would reduce to 1 cup a day when I get a bfp. Can't live without tea! (Tried decaf it is so horrid)

Thanks wanttobeamummyin2015 I am now enjoying a guilt free cuppa Brew! I normally drink coffee so maybe if I switch to a couple of cups of tea to start with that'll reduce the headaches and when I get a BFP I can cut down again. Like you I tried decaf, though with coffee and it was pretty dreadful although DH seems to love it! I am sure I will feel better in a week or so. Good luck with ttc - it seems like the start of a new (and a bit scary/exciting) adventure!

Kilicat - I've found switching coffee and diet coke for green tea to be fairly effective. In terms of coping with the headaches, you can take paracetamol whilst ttc (and pregnant).

Thanks Cariad. Will give the green tea a go! DH stocked up on paracetamol but got the ones containing caffeine!! Will get some normal ones in.

Fwiw, I can really recommend clipper organic decaf tea. You can get it in farm shops and "better" Tesco 's. My litmus test was surreptitiously making a cup for dh one morning (he loves proper builders tea, esp 1st thing!) And he complimented the "lovely cup of tea" I'd made him. It is pricey though x

Seriously just have a cup of tea Confused . You can drink it when pregnant too. When I had dd1 we were told no me than 6 cups a day by dd this had reduced to 1 Hmm . Amusingly enough if you end up on antenatal Ward for any reason they bring it round on a trolley every 2 hours.

I'm trying to cut back on caffeine too as I drink coffee and coke all day. Very unhealthy!

I can't go cold turkey so I'm just making a slow reduction. I do love rooibos tea luckily so I'm transitioning into that.

Good luck and hope you don't suffer too badly with headaches.

Be careful how much green tea you have - it still contains caffeine and can hinder absorption of folic acid.

Thanks all for the advice. Had two cups of tea this afternoon which took the edge off the headache and got myself some paracetamol. Used to drinking three very strong coffees so I guess this is to be expected. Hopefully at some point I'll get rid of the headaches and start to feel normal again. Tinkerbell - good to know there are some decent tasting decaf tea bags out there. Hopefully I can eventually just use those!
