Well because of the circumstances it was different to normal births, I dealt with the pain fine but they gave me morphine towards the end as more of a sedative i think
I'm the opposite to most people and didn't know I was in labor at all until my waters went about 30 mins before DD came. I did actually refuse to go to hospital until late as I thought id be wasting their time!
If you have the option of that siarie I would say go for it! Sounds lovely! It is painful but it's hard to describe and when the contractions stop it's a really good feeling. Really difficult to describe! The water is meant to be very soothing and if you don't have any other pain relief you know you will be able to handle your baby properly and be mobile following the birth. 
I'm going to try for a water birth but if I'm induced I will need more monitoring so may need to get out the pool, i don't know if I can have an epidural as I'm on aspirin to thin my blood but will find out in two weeks when I see my consultant again
