Day 21 blood test

I'm having a day 21 blood test tomorrow and I'm wondering what the results should show if I've ovulated. I'm curious because I'll be on holiday when the results come back so I'll be able to get them through the results line but wont be able to see a doctor until I'm back.

I have PCOS so I'm prepared to be told that I haven't ovulated but I've got everything crossed

TheNHS look for 30+ but my specialist looks for 40+

They should also be doing a day 2 test to see what your LH and FSH levels are like in relation to each other.

Have you as yet been referred to a subfertility unit?.

figgieroll · 14/10/2014 10:13

My scores of 26, 29, 23 meant my eggs were immature eggs - so despite regular periods and positive OPK's I wasn't ovulating well enough. I was given clomid

Thanks for all the replies.
ive not been referred anywhere yet as this is my first step. I'm having day 21 as it was the closest. I will book for day 3 when I period shows up which could be any time in the next 3 months!

The doctor said he will prescribe metformin as a starting point if it shows no ovulation

Not From your last post it sounds like your AF is irregular.

The test is called a day 21 but this only applies if you have a 28 day cycle.

It should be carried out 7 days before AF is due to arrive if it is carried out at the wrong time it wont show ovulation.

If you are irregular you should be getting the test every week to try and catch the correct time to have it

I'm having a day 18 test because my cycles are only 24/25 days long. I'm expecting bad results to be honest due to age. Good luck xx

I have PCOS so its very much a guessing game with my cycles. They range from 28-90 days.
The doc suggested day 21 on the off chance and then we would go from there

You do not have to wait three months.

If there is a PCOS diagnosis anyway, these blood tests can actually be done according to calendar days so the 3rd and 21st of each month would suffice. Also a day 3 test should be done first to check your LH level against that of your FSH. LH and FSH are two very important hormones as they kickstart the ovulation process, there is often an imbalance of these two hormones in PCOS patients.

GP may not be able to prescribe metformin and is also not a condition for GPs to potentially mess around with in ignorance.

Thanks for the reply attila
Bloods came back yesterday with a result of 3.6 so no ovulation.

As I have had metformin previously, just for regulation purposes, I have been prescribed it again by the GP with the say so of the gynae (9month waiting list to see the gynae currently)
So today the metformin journey begins Grin
