Baby no. 2 at 42?!

Hi, Our DS is 10 months and I'm still EBF so suspect high hormones at play as already I'm considering baby no. 2! My advanced age doesn't help as it doesn't give us much time to wait around. Friends have said 2 babies are very hard work at first but pays dividends later as they can play together. I only intended to stick with baby no. 1 and saying that, didn't even plan that one as it just happened out of the blue! Anyone got anything to say about having 2 babies at around 40, or are you all exhausted and sleep deprived and simply don't have the time or inclination to reply?!!

Watching with interest to see if people come forward with their experiences. I have dd1 (aged 3.5) and am thinking about no2 but approaching 40 so wonder if I will have the energy!

Hi Magnolia1975, exciting! It does worry me that the longer I leave it and the older our DS gets, the less energy I'll have, but when you hear of people in their late 40's early 50's having twins, anything is possible!!

My next door neighbour is expecting her 2nd at 42. Her first is just over one - not walking yet. She conceived very easily, but was formula feeding so I suspect her periods were pretty settled down by the time she started trying.

She told me that she wanted to go quickly again cos of her age - she doesn't have the luxury of waiting till her child was older. I'm in a similar boat - almost due Baby #1 at 39 and I want a 2nd, so I'll probably try to conceive by 41.

I think its important to give kids a sibling when you're an older parent. Some of my friends in college had parents who were still going to gigs! And meanwhile my Dad was getting a hip replacement and being hospitalised for cardiac issues. I found my siblings absolutely invaluable for emotional support and practical help.

Hello, I'm trying to conceive my first. I'm 33 but my partner is 10 years older at 43 (it'll be his first too). He's much younger in mind and spirt though and will be a great dad. I don't think age really matters, some people are old at 18.

Hi Annarose2014, thanks for replying. I'm the same as your neighbour in that I don't have the luxury of waiting My periods haven't returned yet and my DS is 10 months now. But I think I have started to ovulate over the last week as I have crampy pain and clear fertile mucus. It's almost like it is driving me to take risks in the baby-making compartment! Interesting comment about the importance of giving kids a sibling when you are older. Hadn't thought of that.

Hi thesmallbear, good luck with conceiving. I think you are very right in saying that age doesn't really matter. It is all a state of mind I think. You are as old as you feel. I remember watching a baby programme recently where a 50 year old woman had just found out she was expecting twins and she was over the moon! Another thing is that having babies later in life is that your chances of having a multiple pregnancy increases with your years!
