Ladies, Fred title says it all; we are the ones who shag as much as our men can cope with in order to get upduffed without the stress of scientific whatnots!

Fred rules (copied and adapted from previous Fred)

  1. Thou shalt shag as much as humanly possible in order to get upduffed.
  2. Thou shalt not partake of OPKs, temping, or charting.
  3. Thou shalt keep symptom spotting to a minimum.
  4. Thou shalt share with your fredmates where needed.

JSing lingo

ERTD = Evil Red Tide of Dooooooommmmmmm. Or AF to most others.

Viroid = This is you, dear poster. This is from the first JS thread when someone tried to type 'ladies' and it autocorrected to 'Viroids' - so there you go!

Pant snot = Egg white cervical mucus.

Doing a kitten = Getting upduffed soon after joining (warning: may induce envy in other posters).

POAS = Pee On A Stick (of the pregnancy detecting kind, not from a tree). Also known as PIAR (Pee In A Ramekin - cos we're posh birds innit). Or PIATLH (Tea light holder) PIAWG (Wine glass) or anything else you care to pee in!

ROC - Receptacle of Choice - what one chooses to use for the task of POAS

JIAC = Jizz in a Cup. Preferable to jizz on the carpet or jizz in the eye. This one's for the lucky men in our lives.

Shagging like something = JSing like a teenage nymphomaniac.

Giving a hooya = Giving a much needed slap to a fellow poster in danger of slipping into ttc obsession.

Contraband = Of COURSE none of us EVER partake of any silly OPKs or temp charting. They are Contraband.

Icing = ovulating. Another autocorrect development!

Getting your Cape on = planning some serious pouncing on DH/DP

TWOT - Two Weeks of Torture!

TWPU - Two Week Piss Up!

I've just read:
Gone girl - Gillian Flynn
The ocean at the end of the lane - Neil gaiman
Life after life - Kate Atkinson
Goldfinch - Donna tartt

Now reading James Herriot then going to read the immortal life of henrietta lacks

My favourite books are:
Maeve binchy
Marian Keyes (earlier stuff - she's gone a bit weird)
Roald Dahl
We need to talk about Kevin
Hunger games
Pride and prejudice

Not a big fan of crime novels, I like any kind of novels with a twist or a good historical novel. I've got hundreds of books at home, Mr La sighs every time we move house as they weigh a tonne.

Plus all my wildlife/science massive books

Leela5 · 02/10/2014 16:05

Oh and rosamund Lupton is fab

Leela5 · 02/10/2014 16:06

Ps I know my favourite book list reads like a 15 year old girl! I do read a lot of high brow titles but my favourites are a little less... Grin

Noniks3 · 02/10/2014 16:07

I always go back to good old James Herriot, grew up on them!

Goldfinch is in my next basket load too.

la you've probably already read Mr Harris with your penchant but his are historical fiction - Pompeii was marvellous!

BeforeIChangeMyMind · 02/10/2014 16:09

I'm a number-cruncher. :)

So I've just had my first consultation with a midwife. I was struggling to get an appointment and looking at weeks into the future, but she offered to 'phone me instead. I think I feel OK - it was weird talking about booking in and blood tests when I am still low on symptoms. But she was very reassuring - "every pregnancy is different" and all that.

And also, I've decided not to have an early scan. It was DH's influence: he said "just carry on as normal, don't do anything you wouldn't have done if you hadn't had the miscarriage". At first, I didn't agree with him and was going to book it anyway. But, thinking about it, I decided he was right. So that's that.

I feel really wobbily though, still. Not sure why.

freshstart4us · 02/10/2014 16:09

Ooh book stuff!! I love reading but most consumption now is boardbooks with BIG LETTERS. LOL As a full-time worker bee (the industry-that-shall-not-be-named-after-2008) and part-time student with a toddler I am short about 4 hours every day these days. Usually the sleep gets cut, fun reading is limited to the Evening Standard and Mumsnet of course! Grin

In my previous carefree single life before the career got a bit mad I would disappear into sci-fi or fantasy fiction for weeks on end when I discovered a new author. Then I lost my taste for fiction sometime in my early 30s, got into biographies and geopolitical stuff in a big way. I do miss sinking my teeth into a good novel though!!

BothersomeB · 02/10/2014 16:11

Ooo - if you like the Rosie's, have you read '600 hours of Edward'? And the Jo Nesbo Harry Hole ones are even better in the right order (I have to google it to work out which one I should read next) - think The Snowman's somewhere in the middle...
On a roll now - also recommend (and Cal - an idea of what I've enjoyed!):
One Day by David Nicholls
Room by Emma Donoghue
Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
All the Gillian Flyn's

BeforeIChangeMyMind · 02/10/2014 16:11

I wish I could participate in the literary chat. All my books are craft-related. I'm trying to read Caitlin Moran's novel and it's taken me three months so far :(

freshstart4us · 02/10/2014 16:19

Before not sure about her novel, but I can recommend Moran's "How To Be a Woman". Really, really good. And hilarious - I struggled on public transport with that one!

lildottie · 02/10/2014 16:22

crafts have kinda replaced reading for me too. between knitting and scrapbooking my house is full!

OP posts:
BothersomeB · 02/10/2014 16:25

Ah, Before - it's perfectly normal to feel wobbly - apart from the physical and hormonal changes that are happening, you are naturally nervous and having to keep it to yourself is a nightmare in itself...be kind to yourself and look forward to the day you have that 3 month scan, your hormones have settled down and can breath a sigh of relief, tell the world and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!
xxx

BothersomeB · 02/10/2014 16:26

Knitting? Scrapbooking? I thought I was the old lady here? Grin

freshstart4us · 02/10/2014 16:26

Before so glad you've had the midwife consult and decided about the early scan. Wobbly is completely understandable, you've got 12 weeks to get unwobbly and I suspect your lack of symptoms will rectify itself very, very soon. Wink

BothersomeB · 02/10/2014 16:26

Ooops - just spent £25 on Kindle book store...

Leela5 · 02/10/2014 16:36

bother I also loved One Day and Room!

before I'm so pleased you feel a bit better after you chat with the doctor. Your dh sounds very sensible - you have every chance as anyone else if having a normal healthy pregnancy. I know you must be scared, we will hold your hand all the way.

I really hated moran's book moranthology, it grated on me. Not read her how to be a woman yet.

I love Herriot, they are hilarious!

gaggiagirl · 02/10/2014 16:42

You all have cool jobs!

If I told you what I did for a living you would shake your fists in grumblement (new word) at me. I can however tell you that I work for an organization that rhymes with 'Ben ate Jess'.

Leela5 · 02/10/2014 16:47

NHS?
Why would we grumble?

BothersomeB · 02/10/2014 16:48

Ha! That truly is a shit clue...but I don't hate Ben ate Jess! Most of the Ben's and Jess's I've dealt with have been lovely, and we are sooo lucky to have them at all!
x

ChatEnOeuf · 02/10/2014 16:51

Me too Gaggia, I look after the littlest of its business. It's pretty cool, though I have been known to shake my fist in grumblement at it too Grin

Other books I've loved...
The Time Traveller's Wife
We Need to Talk About Kevin
How to be Good (Nick Hornby, I love most of his stuff)
One Day
The Regeneration Trilogy (Pat Barker)
Things I Want My Daughters to Know (Elizabeth Noble)
Agree the Jo Nesbo HH series
Patricia Cornwall (Scarpetta) and Kathy Reichs (Bones novels)
Robin Cook and Clive Cussler
I'm currently rocking the Julia Donaldson library with DD, while trying to expand into the Mr Men and Little Miss books. I get the free paper each morning here and have fun trying to work out what's going on in my world Smile

I'll be POAS if no sign of the red convertible by Monday...

BothersomeB · 02/10/2014 16:52

Oh dear - typo of the day - just signed off an email 'Kind Retards'

gaggiagirl · 02/10/2014 17:06

Yeah the NHS. You said many kind words about them la.
It must be this area but moat people want to whinge at me and tell me how shit xy&z are.

mountaingirl01 · 02/10/2014 17:07

Omg I wake up and you guys have got through 3 pages!! Don't worry, I hedged my bets last night before work :) they are dual hormone pissy sticks la which is why i used one in the morning.. You are a bad influence though I am going cold turkey from the contraband! Oh and I love a good historical novel too :) though time travellers wife is one of my ultimate favourites along with after you'd gone by Maggie O'Farrell. How to be a woman -- awesome my sister and I still quote it to one another!

mountaingirl01 · 02/10/2014 17:08

PS you lot give me a smile every day!

Leela5 · 02/10/2014 17:08

Haaaaa! Hilarious!

I accidentally signed off with a kiss to male colleague once.

I've been treated very well by NHS. There are bits where it's not perfect but they are busy and overworked so I can understand they are doing their best.

Leela5 · 02/10/2014 17:09

Chat I loved Things I Want my Daughters to Know too
