Hello,
I am 34 and getting married in Decemeber. My OH and I want to start a family as quickly as possible but I am reading conflicting views when to come off the pill etc. I am curently on Diannete and am reading very scary things about how long it takes for the body to get back to normal after coming off it. I have been taking it for my skin and don't really want to have bad skin on my wedding day but if that is what it takes I will.

I have also been looking at getting an ovulation kit but the one that I was reccommended is 140! Does anyone have any thoughts on good ones?

The pill should leave your system very quickly after taking the last tablet.

What were your periods like prior to using the pill; if they were irregular at the time your cycle may well revert back to that irregular pattern.

I would refrain from using OPKs at all if your menstrual cycle was previously irregular in nature or becomes irregular after stopping dianette. They are not at all recommended in such circumstances.

Dianette is known for its anti-androgenic qualities so stopping that may cause your skin to erupt again. This problem anyway is caused by hormonal imbalances, one possible cause for this is a condition called polycystic ovaries.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
My periods were regular and normal before. I am prepared that my skin might get bad again althought I guess I want to leave it as long as I can before I come off it, but not at the expense of concieving. I am worried about my age as well. My OH is only 28 so he doesn't see the worry.

Hi WS I am 32 and my partner is 28. I was also on Dianette for several years mainly for contraception purposes but also for my skin. I came off the pill earlier this year and yes my skin got worse but was no where near as bad as it had been previous to the pill.
I would advise against ovulation kits this early on as 1. It takes time to get back into a regular cycle and 2. Too much pressure too early on. Enjoy trying to have a baby.
My cycle went from 28 days on the pill to 29 then 31 and then I fell pregnant on the 3rd month of trying.
I downloaded a few apps to help me keep track of cycle. A lot cheaper than the kits. Very good for advice too.
All the best for the future. Thanks

My skin took about 3 months to get bad again after coming off it and it didn't get really bad for over 6 months. I did, however, then take over a year to conceive and needed Clomid to do it. From my experience, I would come off soon. If your skin flares up, you might be able to get some cream as a temporary fix. Differin gel worked for me. But obviously everyone is different and that's just my experience.

Oh and if you do want an ovulation kit, you certainly don't need to spend that much on them. eBay cheepies, a thermometer and a free app will do the job!

Thank you all for your replies. My OH will be relieved to hear that you don't need to buy an expensive kit. I think it is looking like the best thing to do is to finish the pill sooner rather than later and just brave the skin issues.

I know its different for everyone, but I was on dianette for a few years then fell pregnant the second month after I stopped it, so it doesn't necessarily take a long time to leave your system. Good luck!
