How old was your DC1 when you fell pregnant with DC2? My DD is just 2 and DH and I are talking about possibly trying for DC2, but I would be curious to know your age gaps and how it worked for you! TYIA!

14 months. I.wouldn't recommend such a small.gap! It's been a challenge.

strongwhitetea · 11/09/2014 14:06

So your DC1 was almost 2 when DC2 was born?

Yes 22 months. I found it pretty.challenging for.the.first few.months!

Raines100 · 11/09/2014 14:18

DC1 was 21 months when I fell pregnant with DS2, 30 months when DC2 was born. We're ttc DC3 now DS2 is 33 months, and then we're done. 1st year with 2 was challenging but not awful. DS1 reacted v well, but it's still tough having 2 so dependent. Since then, it's been great, though, hence we've finally decided to go for the question mark baby.

It's swings and roundabouts, IMO. We chose a bigger age gap, DC1 was 3y3m when DC2 was born (conceived first cycle). Sometimes I think we should have had them closer, but we didn't want to at the time! You can't control it anyway, really. I wanted DC3 to be the same sort of age gap, but DC2 will be 3 next week & I am not pregnant (6 months of trying). It is what it is.

Thanks for getting back to me. Really interesting hearing other people's experiences.

I have had to delay for work reasons! Thinking ds will be 2 years 3 months before we can even start trying. Worried a 3, or more likely closer to 4, year gap will be too much!

Tranquilitybaby · 11/09/2014 16:55

Dd was 2 years 3 months when I fell pg with DS.

Now TTC no 3 with huge age gaps 12 & 10 years! Hmm

Allthefours · 11/09/2014 20:23

There is 20 months between DS1 and DS2. There is 3y3m between DS2 and DD. From an sanity point of view the bigger age gap was better, that said. DS1 and 2 are now 17 and 19 and are greAt friends. The same cannot be said for DS2 and DD. That might be a boy/girl thing though.
We are currently ttc no.4 (but first with new DH). My youngest is 15!!

HeyMicky · 11/09/2014 20:28

DD will be 2.8 when this DC is born. I had hoped to have a smaller gap, but DD is actually an absolute joy at the moment and I'm pleased I can give her my undivided attention.

Shroomboom · 12/09/2014 09:31

We have 7 years between ds and dd, but not through choice. It has turned out well though - ds had 7 years of our undivided attention and is now a fabulous doting big brother.
It probably would've been better to have a smaller gap though - they are both at such different stages it makes it a bit tricky sometimes.

Bowlersarm · 12/09/2014 09:34

2.4 between one and two.

21 months between two and three.

Pleased we had them close-ish together, but there are pros and cons for small and large age gaps.

LizzieMint · 12/09/2014 09:56

6 months. So a 15 month age gap. Hellish for the first year but almost entirely brilliant since then, they are really close, we didn't have any sibling rivalry because as far as they are concerned they've always been together.
Bigger gap between 2 and 3 though, largely because baby 1 was super-easy and slept through at 10 weeks, baby 2.....well, he was 2.5 before I got a nights sleep!

JackieBrambles · 12/09/2014 10:06

My DS is 19 months and we are on cycle 3 of TTC number 2. I really didn't want a large age gap as me and my sister are 2 years apart and so close.
I got pregnant with number 1 really easily though and now I'm regretting waiting to start trying (I've only been back at work 6 months, i didn't want to get PG straight away!). Most of my NCT friends are now expecting number 2.
