I'm currently waiting in DBS to clear before I can start a new job. Dd has just turned 2 and I am thinking im almost ready for another child. Yesterday I found out that two friends are pregnant and I feel a little jealous. Although obviously very happy for them!

These days of financial hard times we have to plan children, as I need the mat leave etc. I know I need to wait till I've done my 6months probation and got the job, but what happens if I don't? Would I still be eligible to the same mat leave pay?
Tell me to cross my legs and wait!!!

I have had to wait whilst awaiting an op which meant I went back on the pill. I was gutted as I had hoped to use the increased fertility people talk about post pregnancy to catch on as DC1 took two years to conceive.

The having to wait when I had wanted a close gap was far more upsetting then I had expected and no one seemed to understand Sad

Hope it all works out for you but I understand your pain!

Stars66 · 10/09/2014 22:32

Thanks squeaky. I understand. Although I didn't want a very close gap, it took me a year to have a healthy pregnancy and I just doing want to go through that anxious wait when finally getting round to trying. I guess it's about tracking my cycle now to be able to go as soon as I get the probation period done at new jobHmm.

Update: more friends are trying for number 2 and I totally feel jealous. Happy for them of course, but sad that I still have not started my new job, so I'll be waiting even longer.

Would I be totally insane to start trying now? I even feel that today I am ovulating.Shock

You would be entitled to Maternity Allowance as long as you have worked for 26 weeks out of the last 66 before the baby is due. I found out I was pregnant the week I started a new job so couldn't get SMP but got Maternity Allowance instead. Have a look at the yougov site for more info!

It was a fertility clinic spam Stars66, I saw it on another thread too

Stars66 · 30/09/2014 21:26

Thanks Babs!

I don't want to start a new job pregnant. I'm a social worker and the job is emotional enough, without the added hormones!Wink

No I just meant you don't have to work for six months unless you want to qualify for SMP but if you got pregnant before then you would still get maternity allowance.
