Encouragement for PCOS sufferers

I know a lot of people on this thread have PCOS and worry about conceiving so I just wanted to say that although I was diagnosed with PCOS at 18, I found out yesterday I was pregnant with my second child (without intervention.) It's early days yet but I wanted people to know that there is hope - I had given up on ever having children so miracles happen .

PCOS although the most common case of sub-fertility in women is also one of the most treatable. SO even if you need treatment, it's generally succesful and non-invasive and often only involves a visit to GP.

Congrats again btw

Congratulations incy. How long were you trying for?
Can I ask what your periods were like or if you knew if you were ovulating?

rubles, we had been trying for 6/7 months and I am 34 so I was thinking of seeing a gp. cycles were quite long and I seemed to ovulate on about day 18 or 19. As I say, it is early days yet and so fingers crossed. Thanks for all your well wishes.

Wow congratulations Incy and dh !! It does give me hope as we seem to have similar stories. Glad you did it without the metformin!

mummycan · 20/09/2006 18:25

Congratulations - like others I too have PCOS and have basically given up hope of having a second baby - DD1 conceived after ovarian drilling and clomid - drugs made me go loopy so don't want to do that again. Anyway this is about you - All the best.

Big congrats Incy!

I have PCOS and conceived dd without any intervention, although it did take a long time from coming off the pill as my periods stopped altogether (no more pill for me!!), but it is true, that you can conceive with PCOS which gives encouragement to others! Good Luck x

PCM

As someone who has had the self same op as you are about to undergo I can tell you that in my case the fear of same was far worse than the reality.
Its proper name is laparoscopic ovarian diathermy - basically the ovaries surface is punctured. This will hopefully lower the excess levels of LH in your bloodstream and restore ovulation.

Its not a cure as the cystic follicles do come back over time but it will hopefully give you a window of opportunity.

The worst thing I found about it was the post operative pain from the carbon dioxide gas used to get a better view. This travels upwards post op and can feel very uncomfortable. Painkillers though took the edge off it.

BTW I also conceived two months post op!.

Twiglett · 21/09/2006 07:22

I was diagnosed with PCOS before I had DS (who was conceived within 2 months of trying)

I had scans about a year after having DS and my ovaries were clear

lots can change in pregnancy

and congratulations

incy · 21/09/2006 15:02

Thank you all for your lovely words - as it is early days then MN is the only place I can talk about it ! I had just about given up hope so keep going xx
