Having very light, short periods since coming off pill

Hi all, new to all this but think the site and all who contribute are completely fantastic. Came off pill back in May and have been ttc since then. Periods are regular but really short - basically one day of proper af and a couple of days spotting either side. They were heavier than that when I was on the pill!!! Anyone got any theories?

Have one DD already who was conceived without any effort or understanding of my cycle. This time round, not so easy!

Hi Bodkin

I am in exactly the same boat as you. Came off pill in May and been trying since with no luck. Cycle is now a regular 25/26 days with ov around day 10 (according to ov tests anyway). AF is now only about 3 days and much lighter than when on pill, although tends to be more painful. Like you I have a DD conceived with no problems straight after coming off pill so am completely mystified as to what my body is doing now!

I've been lurking on mumsnet for a while and this is the first time I've found someone with the same situation as me. Sorry I can't offer an explanation, only empathise with you. Hopefully someone wiser will be along soon!

Hi Naples - glad to hear it's not just me! Mine are also quite painful which they have never really been when on the pill or off it. Might be an age thing (I'm 33), or might be that body is still adjusting to being off the pill - maybe they'll get heavier as the months roll by

Hi Naples and Bodkin

i have a similar problem, came off the pill end of June and AF is still at the same time each month and for same number of days.... everyone kept warning me to be careful as i might fall pg straight away but no luck. boo! nice to know others are in the same boat although i am a first timer. Hopefully we will all get a BFP soon!

Morning ladies, well I'm 36 so was also wondering about the age thing. Because they are so light now I had been worrying that perhaps my body wasn't able to provide the nice cosy womb lining that a fertilised egg needs to bed into; I do get 2 weeks after ov before AF but given the rather feeble AF it makes me wonder if there's just not enough 'stuff' there to make things work properly.

Hi Naples and RufusLittle, and anyone else. I was wondering the same thing too, about not a good enough lining being built up during the cycle. Wonder if any one else has had this problem and has had it checked out by a GP or gynae? As I haven't been trying for that long, don't want to go rushing to docs just yet.

Well I don't understand it either but here is my experience in case it helps -

I went on the pill when I was 18 beause my periods were heavy and irregular. Came off it at 28 to try for a baby, and they were every 28 days and very light. I don't think I ovulated for about 6 months after coming off the pill. It took 9 months to get pg. After dd was born, my periods were again very regular and very light (only 1 day where I needed tampons). I got pg with ds the first month we tried.

Cheers for that, Fruitful. Reassuring to hear. Maybe I should be glad that AF isn't outstaying her welcome and packs her bags after 3 days!

I came off my pill in August and think I've totally cocked up my cycle.
I ended my pill after taking it for 10 days had a samll what i think was a bteak through bleed for a few days. Then had what I thought was AF on 19th August aand again on 14th of this month.

Whats weird is that I started to bleed again yesterday?! I have always been like a clock so I'm very confused.

Got pregnant with DD1 after 3 mths and straighht away with DD2 so I'm getting very frustrated and confused.

I thought I should be ovulating this week-end and was hoping to try again.

Any advice would be greatly received.
