Hey ladies,

This is more of an idle curiosity for me. When you have been pregnant, have you always had lots of symptoms before your missed period? I hear a lot about super sore boobs and stuff like that, but is it always the case?

My partner and I definitely aren't actively trying at the moment, but we aren't being really hyper super careful either. I honestly don't think that I am pregnant.

However, this month I have been SUPER crazy emotional. I'm normally a little teary/antsy just before my period, but this month has been absolutely spectacular. I've swung between balling my eyes out, and wanting to literally scream in people's faces (which obviously, I haven't done). I usually become a little clumsy before my period, but this month I'm like a fucking disaster zone.

It seems to be like my normal PMS by times 500.

I was just wondering if anyone else had got things like this before pregnancy, or if there were always other more traditional symptoms that went along with it.

I'm about 2% worried, as it's only the last few days I've realised that things are different this month, and we've had a few big night's out this month.

The only symptom I had before I bfp was the absence of pmt. The sore boobs, back ache etc came a few weeks later.

MyNameIsSuz · 12/08/2014 16:41

The only symptom I had was the tender boobs, but that only lasted a week or so and I often get it around my period, so could easily write it off. I don't think I believed there was anything in there until my first scan!

Needing to wee all the time and sore boobs (tingly/itchy too).

kaykayblue · 12/08/2014 16:51

I have never had tender boobs in my life, and with this screaming PMT I guess that I don't have to worry about being pregnant.

Which is good, as I think any baby I had conceived this month would be at least 20% rosé wine.

I had extreme broodiness, mildly crampy sensations in my uterus, and I think I had a metallic taste in my mouth, but I'm not quite sure. With DS, I woke up one morning just before my period was due and just short of felt pregnant so I did a test and it was positive, which was rather alarming as I hadn't been trying to get pregnant (although we were planning on starting trying within the next couple of months, so it wasn't too bad). I am also pretty certain that I was briefly pregnant another time, but I didn't test because I was on holiday with friends, and started bleeding a week late as I was travelling back home.

kalidasa · 12/08/2014 16:54

In my case I am hit by overwhelming nausea exactly 48 hours after conception, a full 10 days (at least) before late period/positive test. Has happened four times (two mcs, one DS, currently pregnant), and I have always known ages before testing as I am so ill in such a distinctive way. This is v unusual though.

Several of my friends said they didn't realise at all first time but recognised the signs the second time much earlier. It's v hard to generalise because everyone gets different symptoms but it's often easier to recognise once you've been there before. The first time I was pregnant (ended in early miscarriage) I honestly thought I had some sort of weird inner ear infection making me so sick. (Though the accompanying compulsive need to drink the otherwise revolting Supermalt ought to have aroused suspicion . . . )

Also worth remembering that quite a high proportion of conceptions fail very early on (before or around your period) so sometimes a cycle that feels very different but tests negative might be one of these, especially if you are quite 'in tune' with your body/sensitive to hormonal changes.

kaykayblue · 12/08/2014 17:21

My period is due on Thursday, and I am always between 26-28 days for my cycle, never longer. So if nothing has happened on Thursday I will do a test.

It's so weird that everyone gets such different symptoms!

kaykayblue your comment made me chuckle :)

I am 6 days late this month but waiting another week to test. If I am this baby will be at least 20% cider.

I fell pregnant last year and my symptoms were as follows, first sign was a queasy stomach for a few days, next sign was sore boobs, next sign was snot pants! (sorry if tmi) I eventually tested at about 35 days and got a BFP, next symptom was tears followed by fear followed by tears...not sure whether that was a pregnancy symptom or panic! :)

kaykayblue · 12/08/2014 17:52

lol, I hope that in the end you had some happy tears!

To be honest, I think even when I am actively trying to conceive, the first time I get a positive test I am going to go into full panic mode!

I had no clue with my first pregnancy. I was at a birthday party and got hammered at about 6 weeks pregnant with my first, I was on the pill at the time so had no idea. I didn't have any pregnancy symptoms except needing the toilet more often.

With dc2 the only pregnancy symptom apart from a bump was a huge craving for rolos at about 5 months pregnant. I couldn't stop eating them for months and now I can't even look at them without feeling sick.

With dc3 I felt awful one day, light headed and sick, I thought I was going to pass out. I got a bfp a few days later and until about 14 weeks would get so dizzy/nauseous that I'd have to lie down for 30-60 minutes several times a day.

I got the same light headed feeling and knew I was pregnant with dc4 without testing. I also got the dizzy/nauseous feelings on an off up to 14 weeks.

Compared to some friends I got off lightly.

Jumblebee · 12/08/2014 18:07

I didn't have any symptoms, except a huge increase in my appetite which I put down to dieting and probably not eating enough. Only really clicked when it had been nearly 6 weeks since my last period that I should probably take a test.

cookielove · 12/08/2014 18:30

I didn't feel that I had any symptoms pre +, however looking back I was very emotional the weekends before I found out (although oddly enough I had two highly stressful things happen)

I was ttc in my first pregnancy and tested, on the day I was due on, complete shock when it came out positive. Sadly this pregnancy ended in mmc!

In my current pregnancy, I tested on a whim 4 days before I was due on. Oh what a shock as we were not ttc!

Early pregnancy symptoms were really sore nipples, metallic taste, tiredness/drained, sensitivity smell, roseacea cleared up in first pregnancy, flared up in 2nd!
