Help and Advice please! The contraceptive patch?!

I am thinking of trying to the contraceptive patch and was wondering if anyone has tried or is using this method?

I have had bad reactions from everything I have tried so far and now a year after the birth of my daughter I am looking at contraception.

Any advice or experiences of the patch would be helpful. Thankyou :)

I've not used it
but afaik it's the same active ingredients as the combined pill so if that doesn't suit you be cautious.

The family planning association website have a fab contraceptive chooser tool to compare options and taking priorities etc into account

Thank you I will have a browse there, I'm also seeing a doctor Thursday.

I have heard that most doctors are reluctant to give the patch tho because it's too costly? Surely it's my choice which contraception I choose to use.

Hello - I used the patch (Evra) for years and it was fantastic. I had felt very ill on the pill and put on weight, but the patch was completely different. So much easier to only put something on once a week!!

Top tip: I used to wear on my back down low on my hip, but you should ensure you are sitting down if you apply it there, or when you next sit down it will come unstuck!!

No GP I went to was interested in prescribing the patch (or anything other than the pill really), so I went to a family planning clinic (the Margaret Pyke Centre is fantastic in London - not sure where you are). They offered every type of contraception available - it was entirely up to you and what you wanted.

I suggest you find out if there is a similar clinic near you. Good luck.
