I'm a mother of 2 and I'm 22 years old. Ive been on implanon for 1 year and never really had any symptoms just acne not even irregular periods. I recently started having sex and I developed a symptom of pregnancy that I had with my previous kids (constant peeing). That symptom is not one of the side effects of implanon. I also have the side effects that are part of implanon (lower back pain, nausia, bloated, weight gain, and irregular periods). Im currently on my period but I'm spotting. I decided to take the home test and it came back negative. Does a period on nexplanon give false negatives? Could I be pregnant? I'm going to get a blood test on Monday. Do you girls know how much is it at a planned parenthood?

Planned parenthood? Isn't that American? If so all our healthcare here is free so I don't think many of us know (this is a UK-based site).

I was on implanon. Spotting is a normal symptom of the implant as well as the others you've listed. When I had mine inserted I was told if I did get periods they may be regular or erratic, or have a period constantly, or not have any at all. For 3 years I didn't have any periods - apart from I had very light spotting twice. Defiantly wasn't pregnant, the first time it happened, as I'd gone a year without anything, I went to the GP who examined me internally and said nothing was going on - just a random menstrual event. People have got pregnant on implanon but it's usually if it was inserted at the wrong time at the month, apart from that its the most reliable one there is apart from abstinence.

What about symptoms that aren't from nexplanon? Why am I urinating every 2 hours. Same as my other two pregnancies. Could the home pregnancy test be inaccurate if I took it while on my period?

If it's a period then you're not likely to be pregnant.

If it's implantation bleeding then it should read as positive if you are pregnant, or it should within a few days of it starting.

As to urinating every 2 hours - it may be a urine infection. Or there may be a psychological element to it - it's obviously on your mind that you may be pregnant and that is how you were with your other pregnancies. If you think about going to the toilet you will go more often.

You may still be pregnant of course, but its very, very unlikely I'm afraid. The implant is very good and unless it was inserted at the wrong time of your cycle to begin with it won't fail unless you're overweight and at the end of the term you have it for - then it's said to be weaker and there's an increased risk.

Is it true that implanon is less effective for current mothers than someone whose never been pregnant before? What if I develop more symptoms?

No sofia I have never heard of it effecting people who've already had children differently. I can't imagine why it would but I may be wrong.

If anything changes go pay for a blood test if it'll make your mind at ease.
