Third day of 'High Fertilty' confused shouldn't I be at Peak Fertility?

Hi,

I'm just after some advice, I've just started using Clearblue OPK with dual hormone indicator which tells you your 4 best days to conceive. It tells you 'high fertile' days & 'peak fertility' (when your ovulating). I've been testing since Sunday & got high fertility Monday & Tuesday, today I was expecting to be at Peak Fertilty but I'm still at high Fertilty. Three days of high Fertilty is that possible? To be honest I did think it would be early for me to ovulate because my cycles are normally longer.

Anyone had the same?

Is this your first cycle using it? I think the first one doesn't follow the usual pattern of 2 days high followed by peak as it's collecting data on your individual cycle as a benchmark for future months.

Month 2/3 should be more accurate.

Marymaymay · 06/08/2014 06:37

On my first month using this I thought it must be wrong as it put me at peak on day 10/11 which is early. I was having fertility treatment and had an internal scan on day 13 which showed I had already ov'd. Went back in the following month on day 10 which showed a nice juicy follicle all ready to go and they carriedc out the treatment. Am now 7 wks pregnant!

Am sure there is weight to the argument that the machine is calibrating, however, like me, you might just find that your cycle is different to what you thought....good luck, it does work :)

Thanks for your reply Marymaymay and congratulations on your pregnancy.

For my previous 2 cycles I used the normal Clearblue OPK which just tells you when you're ovulating, I've got one stick left so I'm tempted to test tonight just to see if it says I'm ovulating. If its correct it would be a short cycle for me.

This is cycle 19 of TTC #2.

ive been using dual hormone for 5 cycles now. this cycle, its took me 7 days of "high" flashing smiles and yesterday on cycle day 21, i got my peak - FINALLY!

hang in there! x

BobsyBoo · 06/08/2014 10:39

Really bessies84 & there's me going on about it just being 3 days of flashing smiles. Thanks for your post that really helps to know. I was worried it wasn't working properly but seems strange as I didn't think it was very likely to get pg so ahead of ovulation. Should think of it as a good sign.

I will, thanks. X

Thanks for that loveisagirlnameddaisy maybe that's what it is.

Hi Bobsy ClearBlue really are misleading when they advertise they pick up the "4 best days to conceive". What the High reading gives you is the first sign of an oestrogen dip, which normally precedes an LH surge.

What ClearBlue don't tell you,( unless you email them, which I did!) is that your body can have an oestrogen boost that doesn't lead to an LH surge. This is normal and fine and usually your body tries again. However, the CBFM and CB Digi sticks are programmed to show a High or flashing smiley until the LH surge, rather than go back to a Low and try again.

In addition, you can miss your LH surge completely if it is short but CB won't pick up on this. I had one cycle where I had 13 flashing smileys in a row but ran out of sticks so never knew if I had an LH surge that cycle!
That's when I started to chart my BBT temps so I had a true picture of my cycles and sometimes, I do get a temp dip, then an LH surge picked up on OPKs but my temps don't rise and I can see my body try again and successfully ovulate a few days later. In the past with only OPKs, I would have stopped DTD by that point!
Good luck but try not to get too stressed with your monitor readings-it will happen!

BobsyBoo · 06/08/2014 17:28

Thanks for your advice KittyVonCatsington I didn't know any of that as like you say they don't tell you that! I'm starting to wish I had stuck with the ordinary CB OPK that just tells you when you are ovulating.

I have one stick left of my other CB OPK so may try that tomorrow as it will either be a circle or a smiley face (no flashing) so I'll know if I'm ovulating or not.

I've downloaded an app on to my phone called Fertility Friend which seems good and that thinks I will ovulate on Friday working of my last cycle which was 31 days but my cycles do vary from month to month, usually between 30 and 35 days long, but at least it gives me an idea.

I think I'm going to start taking my temperature as well.

This my 19th cycle of trying for number 2!

Thanks again Smile

I rate the monitor, helped me enormously as I had long cycles, 35-40 days. Just inside the CB tolerance (I think they say might not work for cycles longer than 42 days). It took about 4 cycles first time and 2/3 the second.

BobsyBoo · 07/08/2014 21:22

I've thought about the monitor but its quite expensive, but thanks for the advice.

I had one stick left from my normal CB OPK so I've used that tonight but not ovulating, but I'm going to have to carry on with the dual hormone one as I've still got a few sticks left so will test again in the morning. I won't be getting another when the sticks run out. My Fertilty App thinks I'll ovulate tomorrow. My cycles are usually between 30 & 35 days so the App isn't exact.

The monitor just confirmed for me what the cheap sticks were already telling me. It was reassuring to know that the cheapies were working so I'll probably just use them next time. I agree about "highs" showing oestrogen increasing, which can take differing amounts of time, and the peak showing the LH surge.

Chillisauce · 07/08/2014 22:30

I had 11 days of flashing smiley faces! Just got a solid, I had some spare cheep OPK's so used those too to comfirm. Think I'll stick with th cheep ones next month - they work fine. well hopefully I won't need any next month!

BobsyBoo · 07/08/2014 23:02

I used the cheap supermarket one's but they didn't work at all hence why I got the CB OPK, wish I'd stuck with that now instead of progressing to the one with dual hormone indicator.

I was thinking I will go back to the normal CB OPK but hopefully there won't be a next time!

Only something like 8% of women get their peak result after 2 days of flashing smileys Smile i myself am on flashy day 3

BobsyBoo · 08/08/2014 10:57

It was flashing day 5 today, well I didn't actually test with it yesterday but it was flashing this morning. It will still tell you when you hit peak won't it? That's what I'm worried about. I reverted back to my ordinary CB OPK yesterday with the one stick I had left, I've been tempted to buy another one of those than continue with the one with the flashing faces. The ordinary one just had blank circle so know I'm not ovulating yet.

Thanks for your comment iamdivergent it's good to know other people's experiences with this Smile

Well after 5 days of flashing faces I finally get a non flashing face on 6th day! A lot of sticks wasted though. Will be going to the normal CB OPK IF necessary next month although hoping it won't be! Fx

bradders85 · 11/08/2014 09:29

I am using them and I went from an empty circle one day to a solid smilie the next, bypassed all the flashing smilies!! Smile

iamdivergent · 11/08/2014 15:38

I'm on day 6 of flashing smiley! Confused grrrrrrr

BobsyBoo · 11/08/2014 16:03

That's strange Bradders85 but lucky you not had to waste all those sticks.

It's annoying isn't it Iamdivergent, I was fed up of getting up at 5 or 6am so I could use FMU, it's alright just getting up to wee but when you are having to test then wait 5 mins for result grrr! Not to mention all the sticks you end up using.

I'm doing the cb trial so I have mine provided thankfully; frustrating nonetheless!
