Should I just give up? :(

Hi all, I'm currently 12dpo (5/8/14) and I'm really starting to lose hope. I have been testing since 8dpo, and I keep getting BFNs :( I know that it's early but I've read loads of people who have had BFPs that early. I've even read online on a statistics website that you're likely to get a BFP by now if you test. So should I just lose hope? Am I out this cycle? I've had quite a few symptoms, the most predominant being slightly tender boobs/sensitive nipples and extreme tiredness. I've had cramps (getting them whilst writing this, all on the left side!), hot flushes, backache and thirst too. Even been weeing a little bit more. I know these are all signs that AF could be coming, but usually I get no symptoms like this apart from cramps the day it arrives.. It's not due til Tuesday (12/8).
I'm so confused :( any help would be nice/welcomed! Thank you :)

Hi
Sorry to see your angst. I find the best approach is distraction! Try not to think about it. I said to my husband this morning that he would probably think he was pregnant if you start questioning whether you have symptoms! If you are it should show on a test in a week. Wishing you the very best of luck xx

Hi there. Your dates don't seem to add up. You say today is 12 dpo but that your period is due a week today. That would give you an 18 day luteal phase, whereas it should be between 10 and 16 days. How have you confirmed ovulation?

Remember that the signs of early pregnancy are very similar to those of a pending period. Also it's possible to be in the early stages of pregnancy without having any symptoms at all.

Jadexclark · 06/08/2014 09:45

Hi Chloechloe, my luteal phase was 10 days. I confirmed ovulation using a clearblue OPK, presuming it worked correctly...!

I know that these could all be signs of AF coming, but I never usually get any pending signs of AF - only cramps when it arrives. So I'm highly confused!

But you're still in your luteal phase which goes from ovulation to the day before your next period! Assuming the clearblue was correct, your period should be due in a couple of days. If you are 12 dpo then you probably should have had a BFP by now, although some people do of course test positive later than that if implantation takes place late.

Ok, I had my period start on 14th July, lasted for three days, and ovulated on the 24th July according to the clearblue dual hormone OPK. My cycles are usually 29 days, so I ovulated really early during my cycle.
So, I'm currently now 13dpo and I tested this morning using a FRER and I tested bfn :( do you think it's still too early?

Hi there.

If your cycles are normally 29 days and you have a 10 day LP then by my calculations you would have ov'd around the 1st August, making you 5dpo today.

The OPK only tells you when you are fertile and not when you actually ovulate. Did you get any other smiley faces on the OPK or just on the 24th (I know it is possible to ovulate the day of the OPK as I did 3 days ago). IMHO the only way to know you have actually ov'd is through a sustained rise in BBT.

If you are only 5dpo then it is too early. HTH :)

Hi Jadexclark, I think this is all becoming far too complicated. If your period is not due until 12th August, why are you testing now? Even if an egg has been fertilised, it won't have implanted yet. I would put it to the back of your mind for another week. If AF does not arrive next Tuesday, do a test. Very best of luck xxx

chloechloe · 06/08/2014 16:54

This is getting seriously complicated! OP it looks like you have calculated your period due date based on your usual 29 day cycle. However if you have in fact ovulated earlier than usual, on CD10, then this cycle will be less than 29 days so you will not be due in one week at all, but rather in the next few days.

If you are in fact on 13 dpo then a FRER probably should have come up positive by now. Like the others have said, you need to be sure that you did in fact ovulate on 24.7 though.
