How long TTC? And do you always DTD when ovulating, or all month round?

Have been TTC second baby for nearly 6 months, have only been using an app to track ovulation, and have only been DTD around the 6 days that I'm supposed to be fertile. I'm starting to wonder if this is a totally set up to fail way of trying! Af due any day again, and I have had a bit of spotting so know this isn't my month either. It seemed easier first time around, but I probably done the same, tried to DTD around the time I thought I was ovulating, taking the date of my expected period and thinking 14 days from there would be when I was ovulating. Does anyone recommend the ovulation tests or anything like that? Thanks all x

Hi miss. I was the same with my first baby, I just DTD around the window I thought I might be ovulating, and conceived second cycle. We have now been trying for a second baby for over 12 months, and after about 6 months I started using ovulation tests, or OPKs, to check if and when I was ovulating. After another few months I started using the basal body temperature thermometer, you can pick them up for £5 or so online, and everything suggested that I ovulate on day 16, so slightly later than 'normal'.
It depends how into it all you want to get really, if you just want to keep going and see what happens then I would suggest try DTD every 3 days or so all month long, and ramp it up a bit during your fertile window. It might be worth using OPKs for a month or two just to see when you do ovulate, especially if you don't get many other indicators such as EWCM or ovulation pains. It's also worth noting that it's the few days before you ovulate that are the best time to get DTD!
I know how hard it is to keep up the enthusiasm month after month to DTD as often as possible, so if you do want to keep it to a minimum then the OPKs are useful for targetting the best times! Good luck for you, I hope AF stays away this month!

Thanks for this. I have ordered some ovulation sticks tonight! And proseed (think that's what it's called!)
