Waiting after a miscarriage...

I had an early miscarriage at 6weeks last week. The EPU were lovely. And I have a rather philosophical approach to it - being my first pregnancy so early on I am coping rather well.

We were adviced to have a period between this and trying again - but do I have to? It's all complete now and want to wait a week to DDT but must I wait a whole cycle to try again?

Have you had a BFN yet? If your mc was only last week, you probably still have high levels of the pregnancy hormones in your system - might be worth waiting until they have gone.

I think they only advise you to wait for one cycle, so that your next pregnancy can be dated properly. However, you might not be able to tell if/when you are ovulating (OPKs do pick up pg hormones, just be aware of that, if you are using them).

But if you are feeling well and are up for it, I don't think that there is any other reason to wait. There are plenty of stories around from people who fell pg immediately after their mc.

The advice to wait for a period is based on dating a new pregnancy.
If you have not had a period then dating a new pregnancy would be difficult and you would most likely be sent for a scan (which costs the NHS) to establish how far along you are. This can also bring some worry for yourself as if, for example, you are 7 weeks post miscarriage then your dates would start off as 7 week. You then might be sent for a scan which shows no heart beat which could cause a lot of stress and worry when in fact it might be that due to miscarriage you ovulated a lot later and infact are only 5 weeks along.

Advice I have been given and read suggest the reason for waiting is to heal emotionally and to avoid the unknown of the cycle after miscarriage.

I had a miscarriage almost 4 weeks ago. My husband and I have weighed this up and decided to try straight away. There seems to be no evidence to suggest that not waiting a cycle is more likely to result in complications with a future pregnancy.
