How often do you DTD when TTC?

I always thought that when you were trying for a baby you would dtd more but I've read that you should do it every other day. Hubby and I generally dtd everyday for fun - is that too much?

Can anyone please tell me how often they dtd especially if you've had a bfp before.

I'm a bit confused by it all. Confused

Thank you x

Me and DH had sex 3 times over the course of 8 days, based on the assumption I was ovulating somewhere in that 8 day window.

I'd just had my coil out so wasn't really sure about my cycles and fertile period etc. I just sort of estimated when I though I might be ovulating and had sex 2 times before the date and once after.

I had a 27 day cycle when ttc dc1. My gp told us to start on day 8 and dtd every second day until day 14 when we were ttc, it took time but we got our bfp after a while. She said that it gives the sperm a better chance rather than doing it every day (builds the supply). There's new research now to show that men taking folic acid and zinc improves the quality and mobility of sperm. The most important thing is to find out when you are ovulating because you are most fertile on those days and to relax. You can get ovulation test sticks in the pharmacy (they're like pregnancy tests but it indicates the days you ovulate in the month). Ideally, most women ovulate about 2 weeks (14ish days before their period is due) but everyone is different and it can also vary each month and depending on whether your cycles are regular and the same length every month. You should take the folic acid supplement if you are ttc, it's very important to prevent against birth defects (no 100% guarantees but worth doing). There was a woman on mn the other day and she said she dtd only on days 8 and day 23 (I think) and got her bfp so in some ways it is down to luck. The best thing about ttc is you cann have lots of fun trying!! Grin

When we conceived dd, we had been shagging normall for three months then on month four did every other day for the month and bam.

When we conceived this baby, we randomly decided to ttc just before sex, dtd, I ovulated the next day (I get pains so I knew), the dtd again the day after and that was that for the mo th. Got my bfp.

Thank you. It does make sense I suppose to cut back to every other day if it helps the sperm. I've just bought him some zinc tablets which he started taking yesterday and I've been taking folic acid for 8 months. I didn't realise it was good for men to take folic acid so thanks for that tip. I have just started yesterday with ovulation tests and I got two lines today :) we dtd this morning but should I have another turn? Or should I try to stay off? I feel like an addict! Ha.

You could dtd tomorrow morning so you're covered, if you have the right mucous and are ovulating, sperm will live for up to 5 days so you should be covered eitherway.
