Clearblue Dual Hormone OPK, need advice please?!

So, me and my partner are TTC, and this is our first month using the Clearblue Dual Hormone OPK... We were wondering how reliable it is and what other peoples experiences are with using them? We tested yesterday morning and the morning before and got just a circle indicating I wasn't fertile or ovulating, and then this morning I got a fixed smiley face...?! How accurate are they, and how reliable are they? Are they worth carrying on with?

Thank you in advanced :)

Hi Jadexclark, I've not really any advice as such but I did try the cheap supermarket strip tests & they never once told me when I was ovulating, I used 2 different packs before I gave up. I've used the Clearblue OPK (not with hormone indicator) for last 2 cycles & I remember on about 4th day of testing & I got a smiley face & was over the moon to know that I was actually ovulating. Although I haven't managed to get pregnant yet I assume they're accurate & I've just ordered the one with hormone indicator to use next time.

What is the dual hormone one testing? I used clear blue smiley face ones for a while and the line ones and never clearly saw when I was ovulating. I found the clearblue fertility monitor much better and let's me actually know when I'm fertile and peak fertile. Unfortunately for me we need ivf so it's not helped me get pregnant but I like to know I'm ovulating!!!

Hi I used the Clearblue digital plus the Internet cheapies to get pregnant. I'm currently 39 weeks and 3 days.

For this this pregnancy, (I've had 5 recurrent miscarriages), I actually ovulated 5 days early so would have missed it with out the OPKs. I did use them also for the other pregnancies. I tended to use the cheapies first then if I got 2 lines test with a digital one, so I wasn't using the expensive ones.

Good luck!

Hi BobsyBoo, yeah me and my partner decided to just skip the supermarket cheapies and go straight for the ClearBlue ones because we didn't want to be wasting any money and time on trying those first if you understand what we mean... Fair play on you for trying them though! :) glad you got your smiley face & I hope you get on well with your hormone indicator one next time :)

Hi starsandmoonandback, the dual hormone testing one tests for oestrogen as well as LH hormone, whereas I think most OPK's just test for the LH hormone. But if you test for oestrogen as well then apparently you can increase your chances of becoming pregnant..
The dual hormone testing one is similar to the fertility monitor by the sounds of it, when you test you either get a blank circle indicating not fertile, or a flashing smiley face indicating high fertility or a fixed smiley face indicating peak fertility... Ah, sorry to hear you're having to go for IVF! Fx you'll get your BFP v soon!!!

Hi mummytobeforthefirsttime, wow! Congratulations! Not long and (s)he'll be here! Sorry to hear about your 5 miscarriages, :(. Well that's the thing, if I was to go about it like normal and TTC without OPK's then I would've missed my ovulation by 4 days! I haven't used the internet or supermarket cheapies, I have just used clearblue dual hormone indicator. But, if all goes well, hopefully I'll get a BFP this month..!

Thanks Jadexclark, good luck and fingers crossed for a BFP!

I really recommend OPKs especially as every cycle could be different. When I was ttc, I usually ovulated on day 14, however as I mentioned in this successful pregnancy I was much earlier and would have missed it without the testing.

I'm just waiting now for baby to appear! Smile xxx
