DH and I have decided to ttc, probably starting after Christmas - I'd like to start now but he'd like a bit more time to save up first.

what's the one thing you wish you'd known before starting? I've only just realised quite how ignorant I am - I've been on the pill for a decade and have never even charted my periods before. I'm dreading the first one post-pill as I used to get horrible cramps...should I expect this?

I feel a bit like I'm about to skydive out of one phase of my life and into another :) I am both terrified and excited!

I found that my periods had changed a bit while I had been taking the pill - so hopefully your cramps won't be the same (fingers crossed at least! )

I would download an app to keep track of your periods. I use My Days X but there are lots of good ones.

When you do start trying then I would join a bus (discussion thread for that month) as there is lots of support and advice on there which really make the journey feel special!

If you can be bothered try temping and tracking your cycle for a few months. It really helps you to get to know when you ovulate so helps to time when to have sex when you do want to start trying. That said, both times I got pregnant we followed to advice of having sex every other day throughout the month. Good luck!

Oooh I'm the Ovia recommender! (Thanks Catnip glad it is proving useful). I definitely agree it is a good way to start learning about your body and keeping track of your cycle.
