Ttc after depo

I had one depo injection mid Feb. We have since decided to ttc my second child, his first. We had a mmc early February (hence my rash decision to get the injection).

My periods haven't returned properly, had spotting from mid May up until about 5weeks ago. I'm at a loss as to what's going on, how long it will take until my cycle goes back to normal etc.

Any advice?

Hi BerryGlitter :)

I had 3 shots of depo, last one being April 2013, my period only just returned last week!

Really hope yours come back sooner so you can get ttc properly. Depo can linger in your system long after it theoretically should, if that makes sense. For example, the depo in my system should have cleared by July 2013 so I started opk tests but literally today was the first positive opk!

Reeeeeaaaalllly hope you have a better experience than me! In the meantime have some Cake and a Brew xxx

It took mine two years to come back, but I'd had more than one injection. I would maybe wait till six months after it would have worn off, then see your GP in case they can get them kick started.

Thanks ladies. It's such a pita! I feel like they're never going to return. I'm so glad I didn't have more than one shot.

It is exactly that Berry

Fingers crossed it won't take long for yours to come back :)

I hope so. I feel like a broken toy at the moment. Also the not knowing when they will return is stressful enough.

I know exactly how you feel, it's so frustrating!! I had these fertility apps downloaded to my phone to track my cycle ready for ttc again and could bloody do anything with them!

I don't know if I'm not coming on because I could be pregnant or I'm still waiting for things to get back to normal. Depo should come with a real warning. I feel like I'm letting dp (no dfiance after last night's onion ring proposal) down.

I got pregnant 9 months after my last jab (Dec 2011 jab, BFP Oct 2012, so conceived in Sept) after being on depo for 12 of the previous 13 years (8 years on, just over 1 year off, 4 years on).

In the year off my periods really didn't return (I was on the pill for most of it). When I came off to get it out if my system prior to TTC I went on the pill again and had normal AF as per usual during the pill-free week as soon as I went onto it, so very different from the time before. I took 4 packs of pill before coming off it and had normal (but irregular) cycles straight away, getting pregnant on the 5th cycle.

This just shows that it's not always doom and gloom and horrendously long waits in between coming off depo and getting a BFP.

There's quite a few threads about on this, so it may be worth doing a search of conception for other threads which should hopefully encourage a bit.

HungryHorace it's so nice to hear a positive story. There aren't many on the web!

In asked my doctor for the pill but she refused to prescribe it to me saying I had to give it 18mths for the depo to leave my system... Hmm

shivermekimbers · 12/07/2014 21:10

Took 6 months for mine to come back but with irregular cycles, 18 months for it to become a regular 29 day cycle

HungryHorace · 13/07/2014 08:00

That sounds a bit odd, Cherry...surely if you come off one kind of BC you may wish to use another? I've never had a problem getting the pill after the injection, thankfully.

I'm sure the average timeframe is 10 months after your last injection for conception, so some people would manage it more quickly than I did.

I'll be going back on it after having DC2 in a few weeks' time as I like having no periods, and we don't want more than 2 children.

And I never did get a regular cycle as it was those 5 months off the pill to conceive, pregnancy, then irregular cycles before getting pregnant again when DD was 4.5 months old! Maybe I'll never see a regular cycle ever again. Never mind!
