I'm 40 and have been ttc since dd was born 14 months ago. If I go to see GP what investigations and treatments would be advised.

Hi Mary, in my case they asked loads of questions re general health of both me & dh. Then they did an internal (like a smear test) & took blood.

They also put me on a testing program from day one of mycycle (cycle monitoring I think they called it), they will explain this to you but entails checking whether you are producing the correct levels of hormones & ovulating etc.

You may be sent for a hysterosalpingogram (they inject dye & scan you to see if there are any blockages in your fallopian tubes - sounds awful but really it isn't too bad, just a bit crampy!)

Depending on the outcome of this you may have a laparoscopy (small incision in belly button, camera inserted so they can have a good rummage around - again sounds a lot worse then it is!)

Good luck hope all goes well for you

dizzymummy - was that the gynae or the infertility clinic that did all that for you?

good luck - hope you've got a sympathetic GP and don't get the "you've conceived once so there can't possibly be a problem - go away" response that I got from mine (and that was after a m/c, not even a succesful pg).
We did eventually pay to get investigations done privately - which entailed loads of blood tests (some one offs, some at various point in your cycle, even a few for your partner), sperm test for your partner, scans at various points in cycle to see what's happening.

I think that's the response I did get, I'm just not sure how far I would go as regards to investigations and treatment because of my age and the fact that I already have one child.
