2ww - question about dates

If you know that you ovulate/are fertile within the first few days after your period ends - which would be maybe day 7, 8 perhaps? - so you have a 3ww wait until your next period, could you test after 2w or is it best to wait until your period is due? Does the '2ww' just mean the standard 2w between the average time most women are fertile and their period, so if your cycle is different you could test at a different time?

I think you're talking about the luteal phase, aren't you? Isn't that about 14 days in length, regardless of when you ovulate? So, a woman who ovulates on day 8 would have a 22 day cycle. You would still have the 2ww.

I'm not certain about that, however. Hopefully someone who is will answer you in a bit Smile

Yes, that's the phrase - sorry, I've been fortunate not to have had to track things and wait before, though I do know from experience that I'm fertile right after my period rather than the day 14-15 they talk about.

I'm trying to phrase this right and struggling! If it is actually 3 weeks from the time I'm fertile until my period is due, the 2ww would take me to a week before my period is due. Everything I'm looking at online says that you shouldn't really test until around your period. But that would be a 3ww for me?

In your case you could test a week before your period is due. The reason it's usually advised to wait until then is that the average day to get a first positive hpt is 13dpo, as it takes at least 6 days for the fertilised egg to implant and then another 3-4 days for the hgc level in your urine to rise enough to be picked up by a test. I hope that makes sense!

Yes it does, thank you! I was trying to work out what was more important, missed period or two weeks for HGC levels to be measurable. That's the answer I wanted Smile

I'm the same as you nelly I ovulated on day 9 but still usually get approx 28 day cycles. I use ovia app and it says 3 days to testing but that's still 7 days before AF so fear it may be too early.

Got cramps, weeping loads and shattered so desperate to be able to test. When are you testing??

NellyBluth · 30/06/2014 20:50

I don't know - I think tomorrow would be day 15 but I suppose it would be better to wait rather than get a possible false negative... Then again Superdrug tests aren't too expensive so might just stock up!

ooh nelly you're very patient!! At day 15 I'd be addicted to POAS!!! I did yesterday (10DPO) and BFN but I knew it was going to be a BFN as it's waaay too early. Keep me posted!!
