Is there anyone on here struggling to regain their period during ED recovery in order to conceive?

I'm very scared how long it may take.. I'm 29 and no cycle x

Hi lolly,

You might try posting this in mh also.

Hope you don't have to wait too long.

My mother successfully conceived after anorexia and bulimia and her period hadn't started back. She had 4 kids after her eating disorder, including one at 44.

I would suggest going to your gp to talk about this. Also, because support during pregnancy is really important for people who have had an eating disorder. I don't want to scare you, but the weight gain and growing belly can cause a relapse. I am not saying that it will happen to you, but better safe than sorry!

Fingers crossed for a bfp for you soon!

Hi there,

It is possible to have a baby after an ED. My cousin had a longstanding ED and is now 6months pregnant. It does involve hard work and determination to manage a healthy diet and exercise. Concentrate on strength training rather than running etc. You may find stress your biggest barrier, so look after yourself Smile

Her GP told her that all previous patients she had with EDs had been very successful during their pregnancies because having a baby is more important than you or your previous ED.

I am certain you will do well.

I find it makes me angry that having an eating disorder is so looked down upon but being obese is seen as 'normal'. Do people not realise they are just the opposite side of the same coin. It's all mental health related.

If things aren't working after a year you should go to a GP within your practice that you like. If you are having problems you are as entitled as anyone else to have help with fertility. But I'm sure you won't need that.

Best of luck for the future. I am rooting for you.

I had an ED also huni and it did take quite sometime for periods to come back. I was told i probably wouldnt be able to conceive after dropping to 4st10lb at 18!! However, after refusing to actually take any form of contraception, due to the fear of uncontrollable weight gain i did fall pregnant, i sadly mc the first time but i now have 2 beautiful children, i fell pregnant at 25 but wasnt actually trying. I know there is a huge gap between 18 and 25 but it doesnt have to be like that for everyone as i say i wasnt TTC and leading a very partyful lifestyle, it was only when i stopped going out and settled down that i fell pregnant instantly. As long as you have a healthy lifestyle hun i dont see any reason why you wont fall pregnant. I am currently TTC#3 with a new partner and as i wasnt actively TTC with my first 2 children i dont know what to expect, how long it should take or how to feel. I will always have my ED in the back of my mind but i loved being pregnant with both children and it changed me totally, i wouldnt touch a drop of alcohol or smoke as i felt so guilty and the weight dropped off after each too.
Take the advice of chatting with you GP and see if they can offer any help.

Good luck x
