Hi ladies, this is the first time I have posted a message.

I sadly had a miscarriage at the end of July at 5.5 weeks - even though v. early I was very upset as really keen to have baby no. 2 (we have been ttc for 5 months). I think I had very recently had another miscarriage (ie. one after the other) but not completely sure. I did a pregnancy test last week and got a v. faint positive line which I was not surprised about as had all the normal signs - sore boobs, really tired, v. ratty etc. Just got af period on Monday - so am obviously not pregnant. Did not know when to expect af as had miscarriage the previous month which makes your cycle irregular. So not 100% if miscarriage or not. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Also I have recently read Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler and have just started charting my cycle (so that I can tell next time if miscarriage or not) - but even though I had just finished period ie. pre ovulation my temp has been c. 98.6 and the book suggested it is normal to be c.97.5. And that mid month your temp should go up to c.98.6 - whereas mine is that already. Any comments?

Lastly I have recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism/under active thyroid. And have begun medication 4 weeks ago - my first miscarriage happened before I was on medication which could explain it. My consultant says ok to continue ttc before I have had my thyroid levels rechecked etc - but have read if not right can cause brain development probs. Anyone know anything about this.

Thanks in advance

Hello Florentine.

I can only post my story here and allow you to draw your own conclusions.

I miscarried at 9 weeks back in 2004. I have been on thyroxine for 15 years. I had no problem conceiving my first child who is now 4. After having DD we kept trying fo baby number 2. I had read that low thyroid levels can make TTC difficult and that it can cause miscarriage up to the end of the second trimester. Dr told me I was talking nonsense and that everything was fine the 50mcg was a maintenance dose and all would be ok. I eventually fell pregnant and was over the moon. Then everything started to go horibbly wrong. After being admitted for a D&C and a laproscoy, they also ran my bloods. They trebled my dosage of thyroxine overnight. I have since gone on to have a DS who will be 1 in a fortnight.

Hope this makes sense as I have just put it down as it popped into my head iyswim.

Florentine, I just wanted to say that I am sorry for your loss and hope that you fall again soon .

I also read Toni Weschler's book and have started to worry a bit about my temps because pre ov, they are so low, around 35.5 - 35.9C. After ov, they have been up to 36.8C. I was really ill 2 years ago with some undiagnosed virus and at that time, my thyroid was on the verge of needing medication but then seemed to improve.

Your temps sound ok, my understanding of the book was that low temps were an indication of hypothyroidism so hope it works out ok for you
