I would be grateful for you opinions on how safe you think the pill is. Are some pills safer than others? What do I risk if I start taking the pill?

I think it is best to ask this type of questions at your gp. Of course there are possible side effects, but the serious ones are rare. The mild side effects (like mood swings for instance), vary from person to person and from pill to pill. It is a combination of the your body chemistry and the specific pill that causes things like mood swings, so no predicting that beforehand. If you start one and it doesn't suit you, you can always switch to another one.

hi,
pills r conidered an effective method of contraception. different types of pills r there. it depends on ur age, medical history etc. some people experience mood issues, weight gain, migraine, rise in bp etc. to some nothing at all. u can switch to one suits u better. there r once a month injecions, implants r available. discuss with gp to get the best suitable one.

Safe as in healthwise or safe as in does it harm fertility.? I think its worth considering what the pill does, how it does it and what the long term implications might be. I don't think any conventional doctors are going to go into this. I don't think the pill is necessarily the holy grail the establishment hold it up to be. In my mind the jury is out on the fertility issue. You're taking a drug which stops a natural bodily function (ovulation). I think its a very serious thing to think about. But it is prescribed willy nilly. It's linked to PCOS yet touted by doctors as a solution for PCOS - for instance. I'd think about who stands to gain from the contraceptive pill most of all. It hasn't been around long enough IMO for me to be satisfied that it is safe and that it doesn't harm fertility.
