Anyone in England had a HCG blood test to find out if they were pregnant after 1 positive pregnancy test followed by numerous negative tests?

What was the outcome?

Did you have a qualitative HCG blood test or quantative HCG blood test?

I saw my GP yesterday and was so relieved that she agreed I could have a blood test straight away after the practice nurse told me they don't do blood tests to confirm pregnancy, only urine tests that I forgot to make sure she was putting me down for the quantative test that measures your exact HCG level. I have been told that some labs have the cut off for the qualitative test as 25 miu/ml which is quite high. I am concerned that if I am pregnant and it is not showing up on urine tests, then if the cut off is that high for the qualitative test it won't show up on that either.

Hi NAPPYADDICT, I had a slightly different experience to you but I did have a HCG test very early on.
Basically after taking a home pregnancy test that JUST about had a positive line ( literally u had to stare at it for ages). 2 days later I had heavy bleeding and went to A&E where they did a HCG test. My hormone level was very low and they told me I was having a miscarriage. I had to go back 2 days later to 'confirm' a miscarriage however the hormone level had increased.
So I now have an 11 month old daughter so just because ur levels are low doesn't mean they won't be able to detect it.
I hope this has helped and you don't think I have just been waffling, hope all goes well for you xxx
