Short Luteal Phase - Vitamin B6

Hello. I have a luteal phase of 10 days. When I was TTC#1 I took 50mg Vitamin B6 as part of B Complex Vitamin every day to try and lengthen my LP. On my second cycle I got pregnant. I then freaked out that the vits would give my baby a birth defect, but if I stopped taking them too soon, it would mess up my hormones and I'd have a MC. In the end I did stop taking them quite early on and ended up having a perfectly healthy baby. I am now on cycle 3 of TTC #2. I am not taking B vitamins this time due to the stress I caused myself with self medicating last time! As I fell pg so quickly, I always wondered if it was just a coincidence anyway. If not successful this month I will start to consider it again. So my questions are - has anyone else supplemented with B vits for same problem? Did you have success and do you know if it's OK to continue to take them during pregnancy? I can't find an answer anywhere?! Thanks Smile

Hi, I self medicated with b vits to lenghen my luteal phase in my last pg. I lost it at 12 weeks. I stopped taking everything during that pregnancy. I wasn't even taking fa. I accepted it was just one of those things but it was very painful emotionally. After that I didn't take anything else. But I did get pg on the 3rd cycle after my loss and I'm now almost 25 weeks. I just started taking pregnancy multivitamins at about 5 weeks. My doctors know my history and are happy with what I'm doing. I took the seven seas ones at first and the pregnacare ones now.

I wondered if you just need the b vits for a short time to kick it back into action as for me they seemed to work quickly and I didn't need them afterwards because my luteal phase got longer and stayed that way even when I stopped taking them.I don't think there's a relationship. A lot of the pg multivitamins have b vitamins in them anyway. But the seven seas less than the pregnacare. In the early days the fa, calcium and vit d are most important I've been told.

HI mrsnec, thank you for your post, it's interesting to hear that your lp stayed longer after temporarily taking the b vits. Sort of wish i'd just sorted all of this out before TTC again now. I'm really sorry to hear of your MC at 12 weeks, that must have been really terrible. V happy to hear you are pg again now though, and not too long before you get to meet your baby Smile

Thanks lady! Interesting though we were ttc for years and I lurked on the short luteal phase threads forever I'm sure most of them told me they didn't think 10 days was that short anyway. Also I stopped taking the b vits as I had an illness that was caused by a malfunction of my immune system. My doctor wasn't sure what caused it but told me to stop taking everything even though she knew we were ttc it was just her particular opinion that we can get all the nutrients we need from diet alone but not all doctors share that view. I do agree it's a grey area I couldn't find much info at the time. Good luck!

Yeh it's annoying that there's not really a consensus of whether 10 is too short or not. Think I will try not to panic and see how this month goes. Thank you for all the information.
