Low progesterone, what exactly does it mean?

I'm not trying to conceive now, but the doctor did some hormone tests because my periods average at every 35 days and we were both curious as to why.

My progesterone has come back low, with the note:
Day 21 (day -7) progesterone

Hello Pixie,
My Day 21 test also came back as a little on the low side, (10.5). However, I conceived naturally that same month. Because I was a little worried about the low level, I booked to see a private consultant who prescribed me progesterone suppositories to use once a day from a couple of days after I found out I was pregnant until week 12.
My advice would be to try not to worry as if your body isn't producing enough progesterone, it can certainly be boosted with the suppositories.

Thanks Sally :) That's handy to know. I'm googling and getting a lot of symptom lists and forum threads, but nothing that's particularly helpful for me to actually process it!

You're more than welcome! I'm not sure where you are based, but if you would like the details of the consultant I saw in London, I'm happy to share them. I read about him on MN. He was great but not cheap I'm afraid - £250 for the consultation then around £80 for the prescription - but it really gave me peace of mind in my first trimester Smile

Low (under 30) progesterone in the luteal phase generally means you haven't ovulated that cycle. However, the test should be done mid-luteal phase. That's day 21 if you have a textbook 28 day cycle with ov on day 14, but you say yours is 35 days, so you probably should have had it done around day 28. So your low level could be explained by the test being mistimed.

euro thanks, it was done 15 days after the first day of the last period? If that makes sense.
